THE GAME - Ancient Enemies
750 pts - Recon
Necrons vs Eldar
Rimciv vs Caluin
THE BOARD -
All ruins were area terrain
THE ARMIES -
I had a fairly standard Necron list.
Necron Lord 140
Warriors x11 198
Warriors x11 198
Destroyer x3 150
Scarab Swarm x5 60
Phase Out at 6
Caluin played the following Eldar list:
Yriel - 155
10x Dire Avengers: 277
Exarch w/ Defend; Diresword & Pistol
Wave Serpent w/ Shuricannons; TL Shuricannons; Spirit Stones
Fire Prism: 160
Holo-Fields; Spirit Stones
6x Pathfinders: 144
THE DEPLOYMENT -
(The devilfish is proxying for a Wave Serpent and Yriel has a gold helmet)
The destroyers and scarabs set up at the left side of the bottom edge. Warriors and the Lord set up opposite them at the right side.
The Wave serpent set up facing off against the Destroyers and Scarabs. The Dire Avengers and Yriel deployed inside the WS. The Fire Prism set up on the right, supported by the pathfinders, which were taking cover in the ruins.
Here you can see the board with terrain placed.
Not much movement on the first turn for the Eldar. The WS moved up.
The Fire Prism managed to catch 6 warriors under the template. All 6 went down, but the Lord was nearby with the Res Orb.
3 warriors got back up to continue fighting. The ancient machines advanced towards the Eldar on all fronts, warriors spreading out to avoid the Fire Prism. The destroyers fired on the WS, causing the crew to be shaken.
The Dire Avengers and Yriel disembarked from the WS. They shot at the destroyers but failed to hurt them. The Fire Prism caught 3 warriors under the template. The pathfinders managed to down one warrior.
The destroyers attacked the Avengers, their Gauss cannons flaying away their armor easily. Four went down. The warriors took revenge on the pathfinders, killing one. The scarabs assualted Yriel and the DAs.
The FP missed and the DAs and Yriel took out some more scarabs, leaving 2 swarms. The WS fired on the destroyers, but failed to hurt them again.
The destroyers shook the WS again. The reduced warrior squad fired at the pathfinders and then assualted, managing to wipe them out out due to the No Retreat rule. The scarabs are all killed too, due to the same thing.
The FP took out the Destroyers in one shot. The DAs and Yriel got back into the WS after having finished the scarabs last turn.
The lord and warriors continued to move up. The reduced warrior squad fired at the FP, but caused no damage.
Board at the beginning of turn 5
The WS swiftly moved to the other side the the board to join in the battle between the FP and the remaining Necrons. The FP missed a shot at the Necron Lord.
The full warrior squad rained fire on the WS, destroying it. One of the DAs died from the crash, but the rest escaped unharmed. Yriel lost one wound. The reduced warrior squad managed to shake the FP.
With the prism out of action on this turn and the WS destroyed, things were looking grim for the Eldar. Everyone was entangled.
The warriors took another wound off Yriel. The 2nd squad failed to finish off the FP.
Yriel failed the Doomed save, giving him his final wound.
END OF GAME
The Eldar had the Fire Prism inside the Necron deployment zone, and the warrior squad was inside the Eldar zone. The Necrons had the Lord and warriors left.
ELDAR: 469 VPs.
NECRONS: 744 VPs.
RESULT: Solid Victory for the Necrons
One major thing I'll remember from this game is to keep my units spread out, especially on the first turn. I could have cut my losses in Warriors in half by doing that, maybe letting me kill the Prism later on. Same with the Destroyers later on. I forgot for one turn and Cal took advantage of the opportunity to take them out in one shot. I almost dropped the scarabs in favor of more destroyers, but I'm glad I didn't. They did exactly as planned and kept the DAs and Yriel occupied for a good part of the game. I also got lucky that the Eldar fire was concentrated on the destroyers, which, while expensive, only counted as 1 Necron each. I never had to worry about Phase Out. So, I may use Destroyers to draw fire in future games, by deploying them on a separate flank as I did here.
My mvp unit would have to be the scarabs. Even though they all died, they performed perfectly and gave the chance to win. This game really could have gone either way untill about Necron turn 5. Having that nasty squad with the DAs and Yriel involved on the other side of the board would have made things much harder.
Maybe Cal will be able to post his thoughts on the game as well.
Thanks for reading!

Solid Victory vs Eldar
Yriel is definetly worth his cost, and I have no problems using him again. Same goes for the Fire Prism. Pathfinders.... not so much. I could've done with more Dire Avengers, I think.
Things could've gone a lot differently had the Serpent not been blown up on Turn Five. My goal was to disembark, charge, then set off Yriel's Large Blast shot. Hopefully that would've knocked them below scoring, winning me the game.
Sadly, Serpent blew up. Oh well, it was a calculated risk.
Good game Rimciv. I look forwards to a rematch.
