My first time playing my new Guard army vs a friends new Tyranids. He didn't have alot finished so he went with what he had, we tried to stay around 500 points but lacking Codexes, our math wasn't so hot. ><
Junior Officer w/ Honorfica Imperialis, Iron D.
4x Guardsmen w/ Mortar, Banner and Master-Vox
1 Command Squad w/ Mortar
2x Squads w/ HB, Plasma Gun, Vox
1 Command Squad w/ Mortar
2x Squads w/ Lascannon, Plasma Gun, Vox
Doctrines: Close Order Drill, Iron Disc.
Hive Tyrant w/ Acid Maw, both Adrenal Glands, Flesh Hooks, Implant Attack, Symbiote Rippers, Toxic Miasma, Toxin Sacs, Winged, Scything Talons, Venom Cannon, Warp Field
2x 10 Genestealers
We played on a 4x4 since it was low points with 4 terrain pieces. There was a forest in the bottom left and top right corner. There were two big ruins side by side in the center left.
My Guard put all the Platoon squads but 1 HB on the far bottom right. The Command Squads were in the bottom middle and the last Platoon was in the forest.
The Hive Tyrant was behind the ruins to the left-middle with the Genestealers to it's right and than to the right of that squad, all 12" up.
I won 1st turn (yippee)
IG 1st Turn:
Commander Vladamir surveyed the outskirts of the ruined city block. The bugs had landed not a day ago and already the hive block was like an alien world. His men flanked out, the grips of their weapons giving them bravery. All of a sudden, the familiar sound of a Heavy Bolter broke the silence and the aliens burst cover.
The terrain kinda screwed me over LOS wise but I had a couple shots. My farthest right HB shot up 2 Genestealers. The Mortars opened up on the same squad and reduced it to 5 man/bug. Go Mortars!
Tyrnaids 1st Turn:
The taste of flesh was on the air and the prey was nearing. The vanguard organisms were already on the move, their powerful limbs vaulting them over the rough ground. The Tyrant spread it's wings, casting a shadow over the ground and with a gutteral scream, prepared to feed.
The Tyrant flew 12" and landed on the edge of the terrain. The Genestealers eached moved 6" and Fleeted 6" toward the bulk of my forces, still safely in the ruins. The Tyrants Venom Cannon blew a sad Guardsmen away.
IG Turn 2:
The Xenos had erupted from the hive block with sickening speed. Seeing they would be upon his men in seconds, Vladamir advanced with his squad. As he drew his Laspistol, he swore he'd see the Tyranids drowned in Lasfire.
The Command squad moved 6" up toward the damaged Genestealer squad. Everyone else stayed put. My shooting was....not so great as I only killed 2 Genestealers from the damaged squad squad. My far squads were lacking LOS pretty badly.
Tyranids Turn 2:
Red lights fired wildly from the prey but to little effect. It pattered off the Tyrants carapace harmlessly and for a moment it reveled in it's power. Than it was upon them and fear was on the air.
The Hive Tyrant lands in front of my HB squad in the woods. The Genestealers both move down and fleet 3". The rightmost squad prepared to charge my Command squad while the others hid behind the coming CC. The Hive Tyrant blew another Guardsmen down with it's Venom Cannon and charged, as did the Genestealers. The Tyrant killed 3 Guardsmen for no damage returned. The Genestealers killed 3 Guardsmen for no loss, but both squads held.
IG Turn 3:
Vladamir deflected claws and dripping maws that moved faster than the eye could follow. These xenos were whipcord muscle and cold resolve. Boris raised the banner of the 13th high, doing his best to keep his guts in his stomach. Vladamir prayed the battle was going better elsewhere.
I didn't have a ton of targets so I fired what I could at the far Genestealers, killing 2. In assault, the Hive Tyrant broke the Guardsmen and chased them down, going 3", while the Genestealers laid low the banner bearer. The Officer held on.
Tyranids Turn 3:
Fresh gore dripped from the Tyrants claws and mouth and it saw more prey close by. It's wings beat so hard the small meals had to shield themselves. There was always more to eat.
The Tyrant prepared to charge one of the Platoon Commands. The unengaged Genestealers moved towards the rest of my army but didn't have charges this turn. The Tyrant didn't shoot but flew in and ate 4 men for no return and broke the squad, not Massacring far enough to make it into combat. The Genestealers did 2 wounds to the Officer who cut one down with his chainsword. He broke and was run down for his trouble.
IG Turn 4:
Kapral Alexei pumped out another chargwe from his lasgun. The battle was turning against them. The Commander had died with his sword buried in an alien skull and the remaning xenos were runnign breakneck toward their formation. He directed what fire he could at the Tyrant and prayed it could stop the abomination.
I didn't move and reasoned I had to drop the Hive Tyrant this turn. The small Genestealer squad was in assault range but the big one was still pretty far away. Between my fist two Lascannon squad, I put 3 wounds on the Tyrant thanks to Rapid Firing Plasma. My Last Heavy Bolter squad inflicted 3 regular armor saves.....and dropped it! *cheers* My Last Command squad dropped a shell on the Genestealers and killed the last two. *sigh of relief*
Tyranids Turn 4:
The Hive Mind was gone and the organisms were empty. They ran out of hatred but they were falling even as they reached the lines. The prey seemed far....so far.
The Genestealers moved, fleeted and didn't make a charge. :[
IG Turn 5:
Alexei smiled to himself as the last of the fething xenos fell, it's torso blown away by a heavy bolter round. All that was left to do was tally the dead and hook up with HQ. There would be other battles before this Hive was cleansed.
All my guns blew the Genestealers down to 3 members, who than promptly fled the field broken beyond repair. I shook my opponents hand and thanked my luck for the win.
I really hate small points games. He played pretty good for a first outing, I probably could have deployed a little better but I think the bait squads may have accidentally won it for me. Hopefully I can play my beloved 1500 next time.
Aww another kewl battle report. Crusher(Nids) did a lot better then I thought. Hmm better look out competition is on the way. And of course no one else comments . Must be cause there awe struck from your report. lol

Khador? Do you play Warmachine?
Congrats to the win!
Naw I just love their background and sorta based my army on them, Hail the Empress!
Heh okay. I guess that works.
[jedimindtrick=on]... though you should play Warmachine. [/jedimindtrick]
As soon as I find a couple hundred bucks after my fantasy army, you got it.
