The stage was set, the trap ready to spring. Agraphon the pustulent looked to the sky, attempting to judge the amount of time left before the eldar warhost would be in position. Deciding that he still had a few minutes time, he gave his manreaper a few practice sweeps out in front of him, feeling the writhing warp entity clamoring for blood. "Soon we shall feast..." he gasped from a throat thick with mucus. With that, he hunkered down behind a piece of wreckage from the crashed imperial lander to await the slaughter to come...
This was a battle that I had over the weekend. My opponent and I had both planned to play 1k points but right before the battle we decided to add an extra 50 points in as there were a couple of things we both wanted to fit in but couldn't.
The chaos list:
Lt. MoN, Manreaper, D. Str., D. speed, FC, spiky bits, frags
8x marines, MoCU, 2x melta, AC w/ PF, frags
Rhino w/ EA + SL
8x marines, MoN, 2x plasma, AC w/ PF, infiltrate
3x nurgling bases
Dread w/ plasma cannon, D. pos., SL
Pred w/ AC + LC sponsons, D. Pos.
Total: 1051 pts
The eldar list:
Farseer – fortune, doom, spirit stones, singing spear
10x DA, exarch w/ dual cats + bladestorm
10x guardians w/ shuriken cannon platform
5x spiders, exarch w/ dual spinners + powerblades + withdraw
Wraithlord w/ BL, 2x flamers
Warithlord w/ EML + shuriken cannon, 2x flamers
Total: 1052 pts
The terrain setup was pretty even across the board, there were rocky hills in the North-West and South-East corners and building ruins in the South-West and North East corners. The middle of the board was taken up by the crashed Aquila lander terrain.
Deployment and unit key(please ignore the blue spots on the tokens, I did the key after the other pictures and didn't feel like taking the trouble to remove the wound tokens)
Eldar won the roll for first turn and started off by fortuning the avatar and dooming the plague marines. He then advanced the DA, guardians, and avatar almost straight up the board. Both of the wraithlords moved out from behind cover, the farseer moved up behind the main wedge of troops, and the warp spiders moved up next to the farseer.
The BL wielding wraithlord attempted to shoot the predator but missed. The pathfinders opened up on the plague marines and got three AP1 shots. The second wraithlord and the guardian's platform targeted the plague marines as well but failed to wound.
At the end of Eldar turn 1:
Chaos began the turn by swinging the chaos lord around behind the plague marines so that he was to the left of them. The oblits then moved a whopping 2 inches up to the right of the wreckage in front of them. The dread and the rhino moved out from behind the cover of the ruined building from either end and the nurglings surged forward.
The predator, dread, AC wielding oblits, and the plague marines focused fire on the avatar and after the smoke cleared he got away with only 2 wounds due to his being fortuned.
End of chaos turn 1:
The farseer once again cast fortune on the avatar and doomed the plague marines. The main eldar host rumbled generally forward once again however the EML + SC wielding wraithlord decided to stare into space for a while.
The eldar fire proved to be a little less effective this turn as only another 2 plague marines fell, despite being doomed. The BL wielding wraithlord once again tried to hit the predator but this time failed to penetrate (rolled a 1).
End of Eldar turn 2:
the chaos turn started with the rhino rumbling towards the Brightlance wielding wraithlord in order to disgorge it's cargo. The marines then hopped out, melta guns to the fore. Both the dread and the nurglings advanced on their side, as well as the oblits, moving a further 3 inches forward. The lord moved forward towards the eldar lines, preparing to charge.
The assualt squad managed to hits and two wounds on the BL wraithlord with the melta guns while the dread, pred, oblits, and remaining plague marines managed to knock another wound off of the Avatar.
The lord charged into the ranks of the DA and killed 6, receiving no wounds in return. The assualt squad took a chance and charged into the BL wraithlord, losing two in return for the AC smiting the eldar construct with a lucky hit from the power fist.
End of chaos turn 2:
The eldar turn started with the EMl warithlord once again staring into space and the farseer casting fortune once again on the avatar and then casting doom once again on the remaining plague marines. However, the following scene played out...
The robed and hooded form of the eldar farseer lifted his hand as if encouraging the corrupted souls of the plague marines to leave their bodies behind. He felt his power take effect but so confident was he in his abilities that he failed to notice the green mist slowly materialising behind him. With shocking speed, a pair of clawed hands shot forth from the mist and clutched the farseer's robes. The runes on the farseer's helm blazed as bright as the sun as he turned his will against the denizen of the warp that had attacked him. Sensing that time was of the essence, the daemonic appendages wrapped themselves around the noble seer, and pulled him from his feet. His concentration lost, the farseer had enough time for one scream before his soul was swallowed forever by darkness.
That's right, the farseer rolled the dreaded double ones for his psychic test and then failed the roll for the ghost helm with a 2.
Undeterred by the loss of the farseer, the Avatar strode towards the chaos lord that was butchering the dire avengers. The guardians moved up further yet in order to get within range of the remaining plague marines and the warp spiders jumped within range of the assualt squad.
The fire from the pathfinders proved to be enough to finish off the doomed plague marine squad so the guardians instead unleashed themselves against the poor defenseless nurglings who were slaughtered by a hail of shuriken fire. (I know that it does not look like they were in range in the following picture because I did it wrong, the nurglings should have been farther forward and right.) The warp spiders then proceeded to shred 3 of the remaining marines from the assualt squad.
In the assualt phase, the avatar charged into combat with the lord and the warp spiders charged the assualt squad. The chaos lord just barely managed to avoid being severely mangled by the avatar and suffered two wounds in return for dealing the final killing blow to the eldar construct. The DA managed to embarass themselves by not doing anything. The warp spiders charged in and the exarch managed to kill off two of the remaining marines before the AC struck back and killed one of the spiders.
End of eldar turn 3:
The chaos turn began with the oblits managing to move forward a whopping 3 inches. The dread moved forward towards the center of the board to get closer to the guardians. The rhino headed almost directly east in order to get range with it's combi bolters on the guardians.
In the shooting phase, the predator and oblits managed to do zero wounds against the wraithlord. The dread and the rhino managed to kill 3 guardians between them.
In the assualt phase, the chaos Lt killed off the remaining dire avengers and consolidated towards the guardians. The lone assualt AC took down one more spider for no wounds in return. The spiders broke off using hit and run at the end of the phase, heading 13 inches towards the dreadnought.
End of chaos turn 3:
Turn 4 of the eldar started off with the EML wraithlord finally waking up and turning slightly to get LoS on the pred. The guardians turned and moved a little bit closer to get range on the lone assualt AC(IC status was protecting the lord). The spiders jumped to get better LoS on the rear armour of the dread.
The guardians opened up and destroyed the assualt AC and with some insanely lucky AP1 shots( 3 of them) and one normal shot the snipers managed to take down the oblits in one round of firing. The spiders managed three glancing hits on the dread and with two sixes rolled on the table it was definitely down for the count. The wraithlord fires at the pred, but fails to penetrate.
End of eldar turn 4:
realizing that the spiders were a rather large threat due to the fact that they can quickly get to the rear armour of my rhino and my pred I move the rhino up to within range of the combi bolter and turn the pred to get LoS. The chaos lord moves through the terrain with a 6 and prepares to charge the guardians.
The rhino claims one spider and the pred does the other two in, finishing off the squad. The chaos lord fleets 4 inches towards the wraithlord.
In the assault phase the chaos lord charges and takes out all but 2 guardians and the warlock.
End of chaos turn 4:
In the eldar turn there was no movement.
The pathfinders took pot shots at the rhino rear armour but failed to penetrate
In the assualt phase, the chaos lord killed all but the warlock who then failed his morale and was run down. The lord consolidated towards the wraithlord.
End of eldar turn 5:
The chaos lord moved to engage the wraithlord, the rhino turned around and headed into range of the pathfinders, and the predator turned for better LoS.
In a great display of firepower the predator knocked two wounds off of the wraithlord.
The chaos lord charged and due to FC struck first and managed the one wound that was needed to kill the wraithlord.
End of chaos turn 5:
We played out the rest of the game and what it boiled down to was that the pathfinders managed to kill the lord in the next round of shooting and in the following turn penetrate and destroy the rhino but in exchange for losing two of their number. Finally we called it quits as the pathfinders could not penetrate the front armor of the pred so it was only a matter of time before the pred got around their 2+ cover save...
Hope you enjoyed!

2+ cover save? besides that, the lord sounds like he did amazing that game.
PM me about Aurora Prime Vassal fights! Willing and ready!
yeah, the dreaded cover saves that are possible using pathfinders...
The lord did pretty well this game, he killed a full squad of DA, almost a full squad of guardians and did one wound a piece to a wraithlord and an avatar. He was definitely my MVP.
As for the Eldar, I could not believe how well he was rolling with those darn pathfinders. Doom was helping them out in the beginning so after the farseer was gone I expected them to be less effective... but NO... they killed both of my oblits in a single round with a bunch of 5s and 6s to hit and wound and me being unable to roll well for my invulnerable saves. His warp spiders also did pretty well too...

Anyway, I enjoyed the batrep, and it looks like an interesting game.

Well I'm not any fan of Chaos (being a loyalist myself) but I love to see the weedy Eldar get a good beatdown. I thought it was a little cagey to put an Avatar, Farseer and 2 Wraithlords into a 1000pt list. At least your opponent DIDN'T bring the Banshees and Reapers along, I'll give him some credit there.
And I think there has to be some cap on cover saves--like no better than 3+. Because that Predator's autocannon and lascaonnons could tear apart that building and bring it down before any of those "hidden" pathfinders would ever get hurt...yeah right. I don't buy it. That's just broke. :x
