This was a quick battle me and BlackGemini just had, 'bout 750 points.
1 BC w/ 3 Termie retinue (HQ)
1 Inquisitor (artificer, 2 MC Lightning claws) (Elites)
6 Grey Knights (1x psycannon) (Troops)
6 Grey Knights (1x psycannon) (Troops)
7 IST (2x Grenade launcher)
Space Wolves (BlackGemini):
1 Rune Priest (plasma pistol & power sword)
15 or so Blood Claws (2x power weapon & bolt pistol, 13x bolt pistol & ccw)
10 or so Grey Hunters (1x plasma weapon & ccw, 9x bolters & ccw)
4 Longfangs (1x Heavy Bolter, 2x Plasma Cannon, sergeant with bolt pistol & ccw)
Terrain & deployment ended up so we were in opposing corners, each with a large piece of LoS blocking terrain in front of our armies. We both deployed to the sides of those terrain pieces so we could move out and around.
SW: priest joined blood claws, moved into terrain. grey hunters moved to the left of terrain. longfangs had range and LoS on the rightmost GK troop squads and killed five(!! of them.
DH: inquisitor joined ist's and moved out of LoS of the longfangs. the other GK squad moved up the left keeping out of sight of the longfangs. the single remaining GK in the other squad (psycannon) took a shot at the longfangs and missed all three (this is where i started rolling only ones).
SW: blood claws move fully into terrain. grey hunters move beyond the left side of the terrain. longfangs shot and killed the lonely psycannon GK.
DH: rolled reserves and the BC/termies came in (without scatter) next to the enemy's terrain. shot and killed two of the grey hunters. the remaining GK squad moved up the left more, closer to the BC/termies but still out of effective range. the inquisitor and IST's remained in cover but rearranged to take advantage of the the grenade launchers (but no hits).
SW: longfangs don't have any LoS, so move around the terrain to try and catch the remaining GK and the termies. blood claws begin to leave the terrain to support the grey hunters, but don't get close enough. the grey hunters fire and assault the termies, and end up dying to a man but killing off the BC's retinue.
DH: consolidate the BC 3" back to try and join him with the GK squad. Gk move towards the terrain/BC, but are still too far away to do anything. ISTs stay put.
SW: longfangs still moving, and still no LoS on anything. the bloodclaws finish moving around the terrain, shoot and assault the BC. the BC kills 4 before being taken out himself. bloodclaws consolidate towards the GK.
DH: GK move shoot the bloodclaws and miss just about everything, getting only one kill. end up being about 7" away, so can't assault. ISTs rearrange and shoot the bloodclaws with 2 frag grenades. no kills.
SW: longfangs have LoS but are just inches too short, so they have to move yet again. bloodclaws shoot the GK and kill all but the justicar(omg I hate rolling ones!, then assault. justicar dies and takes 1 more bloodclaw with him.
DH: (at this point, I should have surrendered, but fluff-wise an inquisitor would never give up! IST's stay put and take another round of grenade shots, this time killing one.
SW: longfangs have no LoS because of the terrain. bloodclaws move 6" but end 7" away, so no combat. take out 1 IST with shooting.
DH: move 6", shoot (no kills), and assault. kill 3 bloodclaws, lose 3 IST. combat continues.
SW: longfangs are useless, as everything left is tied up in CC. bloodclaws pile into combat and take out the remaining IST's and the Inquisitor, but lose 2 more in the process.
Aftermath: Full-strength Longfang pack and 3 blood claws on the SW side, nothing on the DH side.
I lost, but not by much, and learned a valuable lesson: IST's need transports!
yes only time IST should not be in a transport even then is when they are going to be used as a meatshield for your GK's or Death Cult Assassians
It was a sexy sexy game, and I'm still confused as to why you deployed within range and LoS of my Long Fang pack, but whatever. Yah, I was amazed at how bad your rolls were (that squad of GK's that all died except the Justicar... that was to BOLT PISTOLS). Great game, though. Terrain was rockin.
I would have opted to remove all the ISTs and have an eversor or callidus
I adopted a cute lil' poison fetus
from Fetusmart! Hooray fetus! </a>
If you had not rolled so bad and deployed out of LOS, I think you would have had to clean him up with a stick and a spoon
Tough luck man, man dont ones suck? Maybe you should have opted to take out the psycannon in one of the squads and get two incinerators instead? Then you could have engaged the long fangs of wittled down the blood claws with incinerators and storm bolters. Great game though, too bad you lost, which you wouldntve had you made at least half of the ones you rolled.
You know what they say, if you dont like the weather in houston...go back to where you came from
well, its really just about luck...
once i played with some freinds, and he got me to walk right into a trap, but i rolled so many sixes i was able to hold off his SM with IMPIRIAL GAURDSAMEN in melee... it was pretty funny when his chaplain and termies charged and were wiped out by 20 gaurdsmen...
yeah i know how bad rolls feel, i get em all the time. I was playin a 4 way battle using my GM and 4 termie retinue with my bro (tau) and space wolves versing orcs and necrons. The wolves were supposed to b our allies but they turned on us and almost wiped out my bro but then he shot the ***** out of him and then i went for the orcs kicked the ***** out of em but when i got charged by the warriors and all i got was 1's! My retinue was destroyed but my GM managed to kill the warriors and Nightbringer so yeah it really shows how the tide of battle can cgange so fast hey?
