Landfall At XCV-3

The inhospitable and deadly terrain of XCV-3 hides marvellous technology and secrets which are desired by all, from the mysterious Necrontyr to the cowardly Eldar.

There is no room for elegant flights or long ranged fire fights from the comfort and safety of vehicles, encounters on XCV-3 will be up close, personal and bloody.

Speed is of the essence, but those who move fast run the risk of being swallowed within the depths of millennia of refuse.

Even infantry are not safe though. As untold amounts of noxious fumes and corrosive chemicals serve to poison, corrode and melt those who wish to brave the harsh terrain.






Game Dynamics:

Game points value: 500-750.
Arena size: 4’ x 4’ area.
Terrain concentration: Similar to cities of death.

There is something of extreme value to all forces within the area. Unfortunately, the terrain is extremely hostile and unstable. Even Tyranids have difficulty negotiating the unpredictable terrain.

Units such as Harlequins who ignore terrain may do so, but any such movement is extremely dangerous and a toughness test must be taken for the entire unit – those who fail are presumed to have fallen down a pit, sprayed with acid, skewered by a metal spike or some other such unpleasant fate. They may, however, move cautiously (as if taking a standard difficult terrain) and not risk falling into a pit of acid or some other horrid fate.
*Note* Jump infantry may move unimpeded but as the entire battleground counts as cover, they will require a dangerous terrain test upon landing, unless they choose to move as normal infantry.

Units who fleet may do so, but if they do, the must take a dangerous terrain test.

The entire battle field has a cover save of 5+ to represent the interference of the planet playing havoc with aiming systems and the smog obscuring vision.



Vehicles:

Vehicles may cost no more than 120 points (after upgrades).

Any vehicle moving more than 6” must take a dangerous terrain test unless it has dozer blades.

Skimmers may move to their maximum speeds, but any movement over 6” will result in the inability to fire any weapons for that turn as a result of planet interference and the crew concentrating their hardest on not crashing.

Crew may not disembark from a skimmer unless the vehicle is open-topped.

FOC

The force organisation is modified as follows:

HQ: 0-1
Elites: 1-2
Troops: 2-6
Fast Attack: 0-1
Heavy Support: 0-1

Special rules:

Instability
Every structure and surface on XCV-3 is a potential death trap. Added on to this is the fact that XCV-3 has unstable tectonics makes it a dangerous place to be.

At the beginning of your turn roll a dice for every squad or vehicle. On a roll of 1, the squad counts as moving through dangerous terrain for that turn. Shooting is also resolved as if the squad has moved (unless they always count as stationary when shooting).

Smog

Any shooting attacks which are resolved over 12” must use night fighting rules. These rolls may be re-rolled if there is a psyker or HQ within 6” of the squad.

Special War gear:

Danger equipment
Cost: 2pts/model
This consists of respirators, tectonic activity detectors, enhanced living metal construction, environment resistant biomorphs and all manner of equipment used to aid survival in such a harsh environment.
Any model with danger equipment doesn’t have to take instability tests detailed above.

Enhanced optics
Cost: 1pt/model
Any model with enhanced optics increases their basic fire range to 18” and may reroll on vision tests regardless of if there is a psyker or HQ present.

She took a brief moment to reassess the situation. Although separated from the rest of her sisters and brothers, her training under the Banshee aspect almost insured that she could butcher this entire squad of mon-keigh single handedly.
The remaining guardsman looked at her, tears of anger in his eyes, ‘You killed Sanders you bitch!’ He charged at her armed with nothing but his laser rifle. Zarendra scoffed at the guardsman, what could a mon-keigh know of grief?
As she pirouetted gracefully to avoid the clumsy blow of the guardsman, the floor under her gave way – her ankle jarring in a cracked pipe. The pain of rusted metal in her foot and feeling of betrayal from this hostile dump were soon replaced by a crushing blow to her torso which knocked her to the floor and sent her power weapon spinning away.
The guardsman spat with rage, ‘Not so clever now are we? This is for the lads - you alien bitch!’
The spirit stone on Zarendra’s chest started to glow stronger and stronger as the guardsman repeatedly hammered the butt of his las rifle on her face."

Fantastic work, I can't believe no one else has posted as of yet. Special scenarios like this one really mix up the game and add flavor that the basic scenarios desperately need. Keep up the good work and I look forward to playing this mission as well as your future ones.

One suggestion though:
"Any model with enhanced optics increases their basic fire range to 18” and may reroll on vision tests regardless of if there is a psyker or HQ present."
I feel this should be +6" rather than increased to 18". Tau need love too.
