I'm about to run my first 40k map campaign, and am wondering... does anyone have any rules or software for designing planets. For example, for terrain types, hive/feral/imperial worlds, etc.
Same for systems, i.e. including suns and space wierdeness like dust storms, warp stuff etc.
Thanks, in anticipation.
Why not use Photoshop to make a planet? There is a little plugin that allows you to create planets and stars. It is free and works perfectly. I will find the name and tell you if you want!
Thanks to all the people showing faith in me
I sometimes feel that everyone will leave me and they will be on their own...
For generating a system, the Gothic book has a method for randomly generating Gothic terrain in certain rings, based on the distance from the sun. Granted, planets are fairly rare, but you could add in as many as you need. It also has a campaign feature that assigns planets randomly generated statuses, like Forge, Hive, Feral, and tithes.
As for generating a planet, why not give us the scope of your campaing? You won't need a system if you are fighting from continent to continent on a planet. Similarly, you won't need planets if you are fighting from planet to planet.
