My local LGS is currently running a tale of four (actually fourteen) wargamers style thingy where we all start with a small force and adding to it every couple of weeks bringing us to 1500pts. We intend to do this every year, we did fantasy last year.
I think its called "Warhammer army building challenge" or something along those lines.
Every fortnight we play a tournament style game to evaulate rankings for prizes handled by the store. In the off week we play random games.
Anyway, I need some input for the next army building challenge. I'll be putting my hand up to run it. Scenarios out of the rule book is fine but am looking for a campaign style to make it more fun.
Generally the games are like this:
Week 1. HQ challenge (bash each other up).
Week 2. Random challenge
Week 3. 300pts tourney
Week 4. Random challenge
Week 5. 500pts tourney
Week 6. Random challenge
Week 7. 700pts tourney
Week 8. Random challenge
Week 9. 1000pts tourney
Week something 1500pts tourney
Random challenges are fine but few people show up or end up playing blood bowl (don't get me wrong BB is great but detracts focus from the challenge).
Does anyone have any ideas on how to create a campaign style army building challenge? I need to incorporate some sort of escalating system to match the increasing army sizes.
My only requirement is that the store requires some sort of ranking system to give out prizes. So be creative.
What system are you using? Or are you painting miniatures from multiple systems?

40K is great for tourney but trying tog et creative yet balanced (black templar players cry at lower point games) is very hard. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
