Hey, all. Tomorrow I have a game scheduled against my Eldar friend, and I have found some inspiration to make it a Medusa battle. We are in Hydra, as we're from the USA.
Here's what I've come up with. What I need from you all are suggestions on what type of mission to do for it!
Location: Geryon Strip Mines
Background: The Al'is Hunter Cadre is aiding Tau Earth Case engineers in constructing a new Warp research center. They are constructing this center in an old, abandoned mining outpost to avoid Imperial (or others') detection. However, Farseer Rubio has had a vision that one of the two locations for the entrance to the Webway that must be closed at all costs is inside this mine - the Eldar do not yet know what the Tau are doing there, and must be stopped before they find out. They have pressed on close enough for the Tau to engage.
Overall, I kind of like it, and it gives it a fairly decent, fluffy appeal. Now, I don't know what type of mission to do here! I don't want just a "let's go and kill stuff" sort of things - it isn't going to be an ongoing scenario, either, just a single battle.
Any suggestions appreciated! ^_^
Well, some kind of sabotage mission appears to be the simple response. Not necessarily as per the main rulebook, but sabotage all the same. Perhaps Rubio & company attacking the perimeter of the compound to allow specialised units to enter and close the webway. Did the two of you decide how big the game was going to be? You might even make it a Cities of Death mission where the Tau and Eldar hunt each other through the cramped confines of the abandoned complex while the sabotuers use the ruckus as cover to get at the webway.
Any thoughts on perhaps having one big "board" and a smaller one to represent the sections below ground? You could fight the main battle on your table or whatever, and, if you had the old Space Hulk tilesets or something similar, you could represent the sabotuers moving quickly through the underground mine sections, looking for the webway, if they managed to gain access to the belowground portion via whatever entry point the two of you designate on the "surface."
Almost feels like a "standard" game on top and more of a kill team style game below, heh. But that might be more complex than you want to do.
"Wife! You are abusing that Leman Russ model!"
Well, the game will either be 1000 points vs. 1000 points, or two 1000 point Tau armies vs. 2000 points of Eldar. We don't have an established board, unfortunately, and neither of us own the Cities of Death codex (also unfortunately). So out of luck there.
I might have to do some reading and do a variant on a standard Sabotage.. may have to wait for another chance to make it a fun(ner) battle.
Thanks for the suggestions!
