IMVWR2G7 Hive Fleet Cthulhu VS Half Moon Strikers

    Mission, Annihilation.
    Deployment, Dawn of War.

Half Moon Strikers deploy first. Hive Fleet Cthulhu fail to sieze.

    Hive Fleet Cthulhu

    HQ
    Hive Tyrant
2x Twin Linked Devourers, toxin sacs, enhanced senses, shadow in the warp, toxic miasma
    2x tyrant guard (retinue)
    227
Tactics: form a solid foundation to the army. Tyrant guard stay in cover to give the tyrant a cover save. Move up the board to support fexes and termagants.

    Broodlord
adrenal glands (i), extended carapace, feeder tendrils, flesh hooks, toxin sacs
+8 stealers (retinue) with scything talons, flesh hooks, toxin sacs
    292
Tactics: outflanking squad of doooom! Go for hard stuff, but not tanks.

    Elites
    4x warriors
toxin sacs, extended carapace, 3x deathspitters, 1x barbed strangler, 4x scything talons, adrenal glands (i)
    149
Tactics: hide behind the boomfex and advance up the board. Mobile cover ftw.

    Dakkafex
2x twin linked devourers, enhanced senses
    113
Tactics: sit next to the boomfex and near to devourer tyrant, pump out shots, provide mobile cover.

    Troops
    15x spinegaunts
    without number
    120
Tactics: sit on an objective placed close to the board edge, refuse to give it up. In killpoints missions hide in cover, and DON'T come back on when they die. Objective should be placed in cover, so they can go to ground when shot at. T3 marines ftw.

    16x Termagants
    96
Tactics: if KP missions, hide in cover and shoot anything that comes to try and kill them. Any other mission march behind the fexes for mobile cover and try and claim objectives further up the board.

    6x stealers
scuttlers, flesh hooks, toxin sacs, scything talons
    162
Tactics: another outflanking squad of doooom, should go for squads on objectives. Broodlord should target tougher targets.

    Fast Attack
    n/a
    Heavy Support
    Boomfex
barbed strangler, twin linked deathspitters, reinforced chitin (+1w), toxic miasma
    143
Tactics: provide mobile cover and move up board, toss out a couple of blast templates every turn.

    3x zoanthropes
    warp blast, synapse
    195
Tactics: provide synapse where lacking, take potshots at tanks. At least one should stay back with spinegaunts in objectives missions.

    Total Points = 1497

    Tactics:
Largely covered in the list, but a few other notes:
If killpoint missions, hide anything in cover that can benefit from it and don't assault until the stealers come on.
Against other nid players... bring the w/o number gaunts on in their turn as well. It's legal! (read the wording)
    Don't do anything stupid.
Objective missions take second turn if at all possible. w/o number gaunts make objectives damn hard to take.

Eldar have no farseer to fortune the wraithguard, the nids have alot of decent str weapons so wounds and failed saves will pile up on them. On the flip side the wraithguard units could drop MCs quickly. Both sides have some easy KP in the lists. I'll vote Eldar for now as most of the nids have to get close to the eldar lines and the D cannons, unless the broodlord is assigned to kill them which will mean a quick death to the brood after the fact. Willing to change my mind if a good reason comes up but think this is a matchup thats hard to call.

Nids have two infiltrating genestealer units, the HQ with Broodlord and a smaller Troop Choice unit.

Troop Genestealers take D-cannons out. Broodlord goes for Wraithlord or Wraithguard.

Don't see Wraithguard killing the monstrous creatures. The big unit is too slow and the small unit is too small.

Nids Win because flanking units rip up the one solid troop choice in the Eldar list.

I agree with Sabrewulf. There are too many of those things for the Wraithguard to reliably kill, and most of the army should get torn apart in cc. Nids walk away winners (and rather full).

To be honest I don't see the Eldar winning this one.

Nid's win, since outflanking will seriously hurt them.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
