Wow, the IG are back for VW IV. Last round there were only AC's but this time thier back in style.

This IG list has buckets of fire, the Tyranid list has gone for balance and will be arriving at different speeds, the IG can cope therefore with good target priority. Killing the fast stuff, then working on to the contradictory HT/Fex's.

Well, the Nid list is very fluffy, however fluff alone isn't going to stop the large amount of bullets the IG a spewing out.

8 Lascannons and 11 Heavy bolters is a very nasty prospect.

    I vote IG

Yup, I was noticing that too. . .

Ayway it's looking like a classic case of can the shooting IG do enough damage to the CC nids before they close.

I'm going to have to agree with the others, for an Imperial Guard Victory: There is plenty of firepower to take out the fast stuff on the first turn of shooting, buying the guard a few more turns to take out the synaps and other key targets, by time the Nid's get to close combat there will only be remnants remaning.
    Votewar MKV 2nd place. . .

Back from internet limbo, and glad to be here.

    I vote IG.

The IG has tons of firepower to take down those Tyranids, and even if they do get into combat it will most likely be too late.

I agree with the fact that IG will win this game, but not quite as easy as you say.

The IG player have to take out all the cc nids before they reach cc and then concentrate on taking out all other synapse creatures. But if the the nid players uses cover good (and it needs to be really good) then he have a little change, but not enough IMO so my vote is IG but I surely vote nid for the fluff

These are my Tyranids, so while I will not vote I would like to state my case.

First off, I am up against an interesting list. The mass of infantry, with each platoon protecting the heavy weapon, is going to make getting rid of the heavy weapons difficult. However, that is a big list. He is going to cover his deployment zone and have little room between units. Once I start combats, I should be able to consolidate into new units.

He does have eight lascannons, but six of them are in two units. That is the perfect thing for me to direct fire from two of my carnifexes or my hive tyrant on. Silencing the anti-tank and fire-support squads would be my priority. My list has consistently fought Marine and Chaos Marine lists with 9 lascannons (on predators) and 12 to 15 plasmaguns. And I win more often than I lose and those guys have BS 4.

I think he will have a hard time taking out all my toughness 6 wounds. There are 15 toughness 6 wounds with a 3+ save and 14 toughness 6 wounds with a 2+ save.

Terrain would be important in this battle, due to his ability to wound my warriors and genestealers with weapons that deny their armor saves. I would move forward, using a wall of monstrous creatures and terrain to screen my close combat troops. When I get 15" out from his lines, I break around the big guys and rush him with everything. This does not work against the battle cannons, but I know my third carnifex, Garthim, would be shaking at least one Leman Russ per turn. My flying hive tyrant would be after the basilisk, if at all possible.

Once I engage him in melee, that unit is dead. Even if only four hormagaunts or maybe three genestealers reach him. Heck, one tyranid warrior is often a fair match against an infantry squad.

For reference, please see the following battles. The lists are not nearly competitive as this one, but you can see that you need a lot of lascannons and plasma to fight my list and I do know how to deploy and set up my attack, while protecting my fragile units.

http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...k-destroy.html (Tyranids vs. Imperial Guard, 1550 points, Seek and Destroy)

http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...take-hold.html (Tyranids vs. Tau, 2025 Points, Take and Hold)

Honestly, I would say this battle is more like 50/50.

    yes you can

Anyways i vote IG because of their good firepower coming up against such a list. The multi-shot weapons will do a payload of damage to the nids.
