    40k Votewar Infantry - Round #1 - Battle #4 - Dark Eldar -Vs- Grey Knights

    I want to stress to everyone that the mission means everything. He who stands the best way to score Victory Points should be the winner. All missions have the Infiltration, Deep Strike, and Victory Points special rules.

    Mission - Recon

    HQ – 309
    Elites – 450
    Troops - 489

    HQ

    Archon Keeraq (in WWP)
    Reaver Jetbike; Shadow Field; Combat Drugs; Tormantor Helm; Power Weapon; Plasma Granades

    Dracon Uhrax (in WWP)
    Punisher; Tormentor Helm; Plasma Grenades; Vexantrope
    5 Warriors Retinue; 2x Splinter Cannons

    Elites

    10 Mandrakes

    10 Mandrakes

    10 Mandrakes

    Troops

    16 Warriors
    2x Splinter Cannon;
    2x Shredders;
    1 Sybarite; Xenospasm Grenade Launcher; Agoniser; Splinter Pistol

    16 Warriors
    2x Splinter Cannon;
    2x Shredders;
    1 Sybarite; Terrorfex Grenade Launcher; Agoniser; Splinter Pistol; Web Way Portal (active)

    Total: 1248

    The mandrakes will sestroy or tie up shooty armies in CC, or in case of a CC army they will tie up a part of the enemy, while the shooty warriors can take care of the rest. As the warriors approactes, they will shoot their pinning weapons at the enemy, and keep shooting at the pinned enemies untill they are either destroyed, ot other targets approaches. The WWP carrier can summon the archon and the dracon as backup, so there will be no shooting at either of them before they are basically in CC. In case of assasins or farseers with mindmar, the WWP will be dropped early, to prevent the loss of its contents.

    Model Count – 64
    4 Splinter Cannons
    4 Shredders
    Web-way portal

    Grey Knights have many special rules, notable true grit. All have Strom Bolters, and at least 6 Strength. Justicars/terminators have power weapons. All Grey knights are WS5

    Stratagy: Grey knight can lay down a hail of bolter shots like no other. With an effect range for 30 inches, they should have no problem enganging the enemy at range, if need be.

    However they will most likely use their massive firepower to simply thin the ranks of the opponent. Once in CC they are unrivaled, except by numbers.

    Well, the greyknights can shoot out shoot the DE, since the DE dont have any raiders, (obviously) they can use there bolters to piece there armor.

    The entire DE force is AV 5, so this sends itself to greynights advantage, since very greyknight has a storm bolter.

    Holocaust will work well against AP5 things, and the superior armor, strength, and attacks of the greyknights will allow them to beat the dark eldar.

    Grey knights win.

    Unfortunately I would have to vote for the Grey Knights. I don't believe that the dark eldar force is all too powerful. Wyches would have been a nice addition to the army. The warriors won't last long as the knights are nasty with their storm bolters. Mandrakes arn't the best thing to put in close combat, numbers or not.

    Hrm, that looks familiar....

    I think the Dark Eldar are relying too much upon their HQ units to kill things. This is bad, since every single Grey Knight model can instant kill either of them.

    The Mandrakes are a neat choice, but mostly ineffectual. On the charge they'll only manage to kill a Grey Knight or two, then their flimsy armour will lead to their downfall.

    However, I can see the Mandrakes rushing three Grey Knight units on the first turn and keeping them locked while the two Warrior squads pick off the other group. I'm not convinced it'll be enough however, where the superior toughness, armour, weaponry, and special rules will give the Grey Knights an edge in both shooting phases and close combat phases.

    Grey Knights.

    ick...bad news for the DE again, very cool list though

    DE for Fluff for using 3 full squads of mandrakes

    DE have the mission advantage with the mandrakes, but they dont really have enough to kill the GK's with.

    Lets have a look,
    Archon on the charge
    6 attacks = 5.33 hits = 3.56 dead (round to 4)
    3 GK's + Justicar = 9 attacks?(i dont know GK base attacks) = 4.5 hits = .75 usaved
    so archon kills 4 GK's then likely gets splatted

    Drachon on the charge
    4 attacks = 2 hits = 1 dead
    5 warriors = 10 attacks = 5 hits = 1.67 wounds = .56 unsaved (round to 1)
    5 Gk's = 10 attacks = 6.67 hits = 5.56 wounds = 3.7 dead warriors
    Justicar = 3 attacks = 1.5 hits = 1.25 splatted drachons
    1 warrior left probobly runs away forever

    Mandrakes shoot then charge
    10 shots = 6.67 hits = 2.22 wounds = .74 unsaved
    30 attacks = 15 hits = 5 wounds = 1.67 unsaved
    5 Gk's = 10 attacks = 6.67 hits = 5.56 wounds = 3.7 dead mandrakes
    Justicar = 3 attacks = 2 hits = 1.66 dead mandrakes

    lets look at GK shooting
    32 PAGK's + 5 termies = 74 shots= 49.67 hits = 33.11 dead
    and thats just in one turn

    GK annihilate the warriors with shooting and everyone else dies in CC, leaving them free to wander into the enemy deployment zone at will.

    GK for the win
    The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. Bring them understanding of the power of ourselves through our strength and their fear. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all fragments will be smashed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be consumed

    I honestly do not believe the DE can weather the amount of fire coming their way, maybe the warriors can if they hug cover but anything that breaks ranks to charge will be looking at the wrong end of a lot of guns.

    Ya the Grey Knights are going to be able to tear the Dark Eldar up in shooting, or be a fair fight in CC, the trick is that the dark eldar are going get shot before CC so they're not going to have the numbers needed to have that fair fight. This is going to be a massicre.

    Grey Knights
    Votewar MKV 2nd place. . .

    Back from internet limbo, and glad to be here.
