Commander Tyson,

As we thought, it appears that there is enemy movement on this planet. We are unclear as to what extent their numbers rise, but we have registered at least two different heat signatures that do not match our records regarding life here.

Upon further investigation, we uncovered the site of a small skirmish between the xeno pirates, the Eldar, and what appears to be Space Marines of no known chapter in our records. We hypothesize they may be [data omitted].

Based on our findings here, it is our recommendation that we begin our assault on the planet surface. We have found a suitable site for initial landing, marked on the attached file.

There appears to be more going on here than we at first believed. Be prepared for anything.

On behalf of the campaign staff, I would like to present Battle for Aurora Prime, LO's first major Warhammer 40k campaign.

The campaign will begin on July 10th and carry on for a period of five weeks. Similar to Games Workshop's Medusa V campaign hosted on their website a couple summers back, Battle for Aurora Prime (BAP) will be run here on LO and will operate on a battle reporting system. The results of these battle reports will influence the story and art of the campaign, with updates on the campaign status (via the fluff) being posted every week.

There will be ten factions in all, to be announced at a later time. These factions will be fighting over a number of predetermined territories on the planet Aurora Prime, and you, the players, will have a huge impact on what happens in these territories as well as the fate of the planet itself. Each faction will also have a fluff objective, the fulfillment of which will be determined by the territorial control and campaign victory point assessments at the end of the campaign.

It is important that we have plenty of players for this campaign, so let all your friends, gaming buddies/clubs and shops know that it will be starting on July 10th. Additional information will be posted on that day, including how to submit your reports as well as more specific information on the factions, but we have big plans for this campaign, including potential rewards for victors.

A couple questions:
-Will there be requirements for terrain?
-Will it be only Eldar vs Imperium or will other races be involved?

I know I'm sort of asking questions too soon but I'm excited!

Battles are going to be fought pretty much just like any regular battle. All that we will need is for the two players involved in the battle (or more, in the case of Apocalypse battles, probably) to report and confirm the battle here on LO following the process that will be posted on July 10th.

All races will be represented in the campaign fluff, with a total of 10 factions which we will be posting in full description at the start of the campaign. It will be a bit crowded, but we will be trying to keep the fluff up for each faction, at least in mention. Since the fluff is based on how well each faction does throughout the campaign, there may be less mentioning of certain factions throughout the weeks, but we will do our best to keep it balanced.

There my local store is having about a 20,000 point Apocalypse battle on the 11th and again on the 18th. Looks like this will might coincide very nicely with the July 10th start date.

Looks like it will coincide well with the 1850 mini tournament, however many of the 12 games we get into the 5 weeks.

So both players involved need to be LO members? As far as I'm aware, none of the people I regularly play against are members on LO.

Considering that, I will probably be able to find people on Vassal who will agree to play LO campaign games. Vassal games count, right? If not, I won't be able to take part in the campaign and that makes me a sad panda.

Vassal games do count; any games you play count, really. In terms of both players being members of LO, we're currently working that out and the full details will be posted along with the rest of the information on the 10th. If all else fails, you can try to get your friends to register on the forums!
