I have some questions, I've been out of the loop for a while and it seems that they released a new Eldar codex while I was away. I purchased said codex and to my dismay they mention the craftworlds but no special rules for them. I was told that the old Craftworld Codex no longer is valid. This leaves me in a difficult position with my Eldar, I run a Biel'Tan aspect army, in fact I have no guardians at all. My army entirely consists of aspect type choices and used to be perfectly legal. I'm not totally inclined to believe him since there's no documentation that I know of invalidating the old Craftworld codex. If anyone knows either way please post here and if you know of a link that leads me to where GW says that the old codex is no longer valid that would help me with deciding if this army is on it's way to be sold on e-bay or not.
Thank you in advance, and nice to meet you, this is my first post on these forums. Sorry I didn't introduce my self but I feel there's no better way of doing that then to begin a dialog.
Yep the current codex eldar is the only legal one.
Easy way to make your army legal: take 2 units of dire avengers, they are an aspect and troop choices.
Your in luck since the new Codex made Guardians easily your worst troop choice anyways. As was said, Dire Avengers with Bladestorm are now the most popular troop choice, Pathfinders are also good and count as troops as well. Mobile armies use Jetbikes. Since the new codex came out, aspect warriors are where it is at, so depending on what you have your army should be even better than it was before.
From what I've been seeing on the tournament sign up sheets ect, the old Craftworld Codex is still in effect. Which is good for me because I have a theme army that has absolutely zero Guardians or Dire Avengers and only one squad of Rangers. If your curious it consists of Warp Spiders, Howling Banshees, Fire Dragons, Striking Scorpions and Dark Reapers, I support them with Walkers and Skimmer transports . I have zero Guardians, zero Dire Avengers and zero Guardians on bikes. I honestly would rather sell them than have a ton of elites/fast attack/heavy support I can't field; it's a bit out of character for GW to completely break a codex with out replacing it. It doesn't make sense that the codex wouldn't still be valid since, at least the store near me still carries the Craftworld Codex(It's not on the websight anymore.). I really have been too busy to worry about this but I finally gave GW a call at their Direct Services line, however due to the Holiday weekend they aren't in the office. Once I have an absolute answer I'll let you all know.
No, codex craftworld is no longer legal. effectively codex Eldar (the new one) replaced codex Eldar and codex craftworld
your army as it stands is illegal.
as others have said, DA are now the Troops of choice for most Craftworld armies so that is the good news
the other good news is with the advent of codex appocalypse, you can fight large battels without the use of FOC although this is unlikely to appear in tourneys
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Bieltan armies are still very viable, 2 squads of ten dires with bladestom is common. Putting one or both in waveserpents will get you close to 30% troops in 1500-1700 tournaments. If your not worried about your troop score then put then just take two small squads of bikes. Its very cheap and allows you two put more points into elites. A third lesser used option is to use 10 wraithgaurd as a troop unit. This will be a very costly squad but still allows 3 elite choices.
I used to play bieltan in the old list and the only thing I miss is the council of the young king.
Thanks for the advice, yes, GW tournaments no longer accept this codex as legal, however rouge trader still honors it. Well, that's the end of an age of absolute Eldar dominance, hehe.
P.S. Have some rep ya'll
