Hey guys I was not sure where to put this so if i was wrong please move it.
Im pretty new to 40k, and i have been playing games with imperial guard against grey knights and it seems whenever we play a larger board, i win, and with a smaller board my friend wins.
So how large should i make the boards to be fare for both players?
Is there a board size increase for larger games?
and what is the average size board for a 500 pt, 1000, and 1500 pt games?
Thanks in advance guys
The typical board size is about 48" x 72". 4 foot by 6 foot.
You then deploy along the 72" side with approximately 24" between the front of your deployment zones.
For games of less than 1000 points its sometimes 4x4 feet, for games larger than 3000 some people prefer larger boards.
Just a little bit more to add to what Link said. The reason you win on larger boards with IG is because of overwhelming fire. Each time you make a GK make a save it really hurts. When a GK player looses a model it's a larger percentage of their army than when an IG looses a model (~9 pts vs ~25 pts). On smaller boards the GK player can get into CC which just kills IG. On top of that, IG really shine at larger point games.
So with this in mind I have to ask, how much terrain do you usually play with? It sounds like the GK player has a hard time closing in on the larger boards. I usually find that if you make 25% of the board cover it's fair for both swarm armies and MEQs. If you want to make it a little more fair for the GK player try adding a few more size 3 terrain pieces.

K thanks guys that should make these games less predictable
6x4 is pretty universal. It can really throw you for a loop when the size is off. Played in a Tourney yesterday and one of the mats I was on happened to be 56" wide. My Exorcists kept being just out of range of things! =(
Tis against the rules to post points costs mate.
Might want to edit it out, besides most of us already know the various points costs in 40k. Maybe he was talking about adding on doctrines as well.
