My friend who plays necrons and has lost his codex informs me that Monoliths are impossible to destroy. If you land a killing blow on them they are merely immobilised instead ogf destroyed, and ever killing hit thereafter just removes the weapons one-by-one (except for the particle whip which is invulnerable), but still leaving it able to teleport in troops. Is there any truth to this? Can you immobilise it by rolling a 'vehicle immobilised as well?
I also heard another necron player saying that he advances his monoliths backward because an enemy Farseer blocked his portal. Do Psykers have the ability to shut off necorn portals?
I don't know what's going on and I'd like to find out before I verse him.

The Necron errata holds some tips on how things work, for example the 'Lith "Living Metal" rule, but he really needs to Codex to play... Nobody, and I mean nobody, can remember all the rules despite what they might claim. Ok, some might, but I'd still insist on a Codex being handy so that they might substantiate their claim.--- This probably doesn't refer to the Psyker using some strange power to block a 'Lith portal, most likely that Farseer model was physically blocking the portal and stopping the Necrons from disembarking.I also heard another necron player saying that he advances his monoliths backward because an enemy Farseer blocked his portal. Do Psykers have the ability to shut off necorn portals?
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
The short answer is friend 1 is wrong, and you misunderstood friend 2.
Tell your friend that all glancing hits and all pens auto kill the monolith (which isn't true, but neither is what he's claiming) and tell him to get the codex.
In other words, you guys really, really need the codex.
16,000+ of Eldar (only need flyers)
7,000+ of Nids (want heirophant)
6,000+ of Space Marines (need rever titan)
4,400+ of Cygnar (all models for the faction)
1,500+ of Legion (just started)
Yeah, you can kill monoliths. I played a game recently in which I had 2 railgun penetrations on his lith. It dies very quickly.
He should get a codex.

Good lord, I see why he "lost" his codex! The living metal only ignores doubled dice for pentration and weapons that lower armor value: it has NO impact on the damage roll. A "weapon destroyed" result means he has to subtract 1 from each d6 roll he makes with the Flux Arc. If he had two weapons destroyed, he'd lose two per roll, etc. The PW and portal cannot be destroyed unless the Monolith is, but they don't magically hang around after the tank is toast. A model can block the portal, but this really only works when the monolith is immobilized; otherwise, he'd just have to turn it in place, teleport some warriors, and rapid fire the offending model.
Then again, uh, maybe he's right! Yeah, that's it! I'll cite his rules next time I bring my 'Lith to battle! And be sure to lose my codex first.
yes, liths are destroyed by "destroyed" results, he is getting confused, imobalised does not destroy monoliths, as it normally would a skimmer, it just lands and cant move.
Re the blocking door thing, as the other guys said I assume he meant physically blocking the door, I suspect the issue with the farseer is exhaservbated because of invulnerable save with re-roll means that he is rather good at ignoring the monoloths guns
Everything you have been told is a lie!
