Hi all, quick question (sort of) for you:
If I am firing siege shells, I can use them to target a building. Now this raises a number of issues as it essentially allows you to target the ground (albeit only in a building).
1) First off, do I have to target any specific point (or floor for that matter) of the building such as the centre or whatever? I would assume not as as with normal ordnance the player needs to be able to aim it to compensate for potential scatter and so on, I would assume you could target any point in the bulding footprint!
2) Does it also hit models under the template as well? I would think so as other units aside from the target can be hit by blasts normally, but this would allow an exploit against any units using special rules to hamper targeting - Grey Knights, Stealth Teams, Harlequins for example.
I had a quick look at the CoD book last night and didn't see anything to confirm it one way or the other, but if I've missed something let me know. Other than that I think it's going to come down to a matter of opinion.
Obviously I'd like it if I could hit Harlequins with Vindicators or Demolishers anytime they went near a building but it's a dodgy issue so I though I'd see what my esteemed fellow forum-goers though!
1. You'd need to specify the floor in a multi-floor building as per the rules for weapons with Blast templates on page 12. If your weapon is Barrage, you follow the rules on page 13. Even Ordnance weaponry fall into these categories.
With direct-fire weaponry you still need LOS to the target, so even if you fire at a building you still need to see the point you're firing at as per the normal and CoD LOS rules... Though it would seem a bit odd to miss a building. ^_^;
Haven't played much CoD, but own the book and this would be my interpretation of it.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
It seems you agree with me then Uzi - and so do the folks at my local GW after consulting the book. In my case we'd be talking Vindicators or Demolishers so I'll nominate floor / location then all that is under the template on that floor is hit!
Should come in handy for the next game of a campaign I'm in as I'm playing Eldar under CoD rules and I'm sure he'll be bringing along a circus freak or two :-)
Of course it will still scatter so it's still not an exact science. I suppose you could rationalise it by saying that when you're packing siege shells, demolishing every building you see is a good plan because there may be troops hiding in it whether you can see them or not!
