    Bio-Plasma

    Simple question:

    Can you Rend with Bio-Plasma?

    Answers are appreciated.

    Wow... talk about exploits.

Since the codex says Bio Plasma gives the model an extra close combat attack that ignores its own monstrous creature rule benefit, it does not indicates that a warrior with rending and bio plasma do not benefit from the rending so I would have to say yes...

I agree. Looking at it from the other angle, the definition of Rending Claws (p. 31 of Nids codex) is clear : "Tyranids with rending claws gain the Rending ability for all their close combat attacks." Since the extra bio-plasma attack is clearly defined as a close combat attack, I think there can be no doubt about that.

I don't see the problem with it. Doesn't say you can't , so you should be able to. It is a good cheap extra attack for warriors. but it still isn't worth it on a carnifex, that 6 to hit is just too hard to sub rending claws and bio for sythe

Who says to put it on a fex? a unit of 10 flying warriors with rending all equipped with Bio-Acid.. now that's more useful!

I personally think that Rending should not work for Bio-Plasma, but RAW definitely allows it no matter how illogical it might be. =)

I understand what you mean, from a "realistic" point of view. But consider that many rules for additional attacks "do not make sense" :

why would carrying a pistol give you an extra power weapon attack ?
why would Mandiblasters give a Scorpion Exarch an additional Powerfist attack ?
    etc.

Rending with Bio Plasma makes perfect sense!

If you get shot by a plasma gun (AP2) you dont get an armour save, why couldnt a Bio-Plasma get lucky and hits a very vulnerable spot on their victim? ;Y

The Rending Claw merely grants the creature "Rending" ability and does not say that ONLY through rending claws it may causes rending. Creatures with Rending "ability" can rend with even a scything talon... if you get hit by a talon of that size, I don't think you would survive after that.

or perhaps you spit and then rub it in with those nice big claws of yours. I dunno. Maybe it makes up for the fact you can now debase to base yourself with bio

I see I'm not the only one who prefers to "make sense" of a rule ;Y . Cf the debate on (Eldar) psy powers from within vehicles... I accept playing by rules that are clear but do not make sense, but it's a lot easier for me if they do...
