I don't play chaos, but I picked up the new codex in the "know your enemy" spirit, and who knows? Maybe I'll start up an army of them someday...
I confess I'm a little baffled by a few things, and could use some clarification:
1) If I'm reading this right (bear with me, as I'm new to the intricacies of the chaos rules), I see that a "vanilla" CSM squad can add the Icon of (insert god here) to grant the Mark of (insert god here) to the entire squad. I assume this means there are bonuses conferred to the squad, but what exactly are those bonuses? I've been over and over the codex, and I don't see this listed anywhere. I see the "magic four" unit choices (Khorne Bezerkers, Nurgle Plague Marines, Tzeentch Thousand Sons, Slaneesh Noise Marines), which have the Mark of (god), which is "included in profile," but do those same stat changes affect ALL marine squads who bear the same mark? Maybe I'm just being a pain, but it seems like a pretty vague way to state the rules.
2) Continuing from #1, what about special rules? Does, for example, giving the icon of Nurgle to a "vanilla" CSM squad, which grants the mark of Nurgle to each Chaos Space Marine in the squad, mean that each marine in that squad will have the "feel no pain" rule? If so, can someone cite page and reference in the codex where it says this? I can't find it anywhere.
3) I see that a Black Legion player can include a squad of the "magic four" listed above, but can one mix and match, having, say, a squad of each of the above types, AND Black Legion marines? If so, does incluidng, say, Khorne Bezerkers in a Black Legion army somehow affect the Bezerkers' profile, since they're no longer fighting in a Khorne-specific army?
4) It seems to be possible to build a custom/chaos undivided chapter. If so, could one do the same as the Black Legion, and "induct" specialist squads as listed above? Again, would this change said squads' profiles/special rules?
The bonuses are on page 25. You can have squads with different icons in the army and you can have khorne berzerkers, noise marines, plague marines, and thousand sons all in the same army and it doesn't affect their profile at all. I usually take khorne and thousand sons because I like the combination of close combat and inferno bolts ^.^.
