I tested the new edition today and this issue came up:
A squad of three marines with bolters takes six wounds. All saves are rolled together (speed rolling). Two saves are failed and two marines die. Same as 4ed.
A squad of three marines with a missile launcher, a plasmagun and a bolter takes six wounds. Two saves/marine. The missile marine makes his two saves, the plasmagun marine makes his and the bolter marine misses both his saves.
a and b rolls exactly the same dice, but while a looses two marines b looses only one and that doesn't seem fair to me.
It would appear that speed rolling isn't working at all? Am I forced to speed roll if the squad is uniformly outfitted? Any other thoughts?
Or have I simply misread the rules?

Nope, you did it completely right. It's just a small perk in favor of the defender compared to the substantial increased risk his more valuable models suffer. Fair is purely a matter of perception!
(The exact same thing could have happened in 4th Ed under the deprecated (THANK YOU GOD) Mixed Armor rules, it was just really really rare.)
