Another one of the seemingly obvious questions until you look at the combination of the codex and the new rulebook.
Tyranid Codex pg 28. (Synapse section 2nd bullet point) states tyranids within range of synapse are immune to instant death caused from attacks that have a strength double to the toughness.
5th ed rulebook ( sorry don't have page as both are left at home ) Force Weapons, using the power of the wepaon on an unsaved wound, causes instant death (except to those that are immune to instant death)
The combination is the force weapon isn't said to gain properties that doubles the strength, it just says that it can kill outright, and that is what Tyranids are immune to.
Yes, I know its a semmantics rule question, but I have a 15yr old who is hell bent on bending the rules however he can.
Add to that the weight of the New Nid FAQ, and you'll find that you're in fact quite correct.
Any Nid UNDER SYNAPSE is immune to being instantly killed.
Such is the benefit of being a gribbly.

On a side note remember that using the power weapons special ability to cause instant death is like using a psych. power, and that you are only allowed to use one psychic weapon in a turn (unless you have something special allowing you to use more than one a turn). Normal power weapons just cause the enemy to not allow for a normal armour save.
Tyranid and Eldar player....don't ask me how I ended up playing these two armies, just smile, nod, slowly move away and don't make eye contact!
With the full evaluation of the new Nids FAQ, and the 5th edition change to Force Weapons, 'Nids in synapse range are now immune to force weapon attacks (but not the power weapon component of course).
