    Ramming Speeders

Can vehicles other than tanks "Tank Shock" or "Ram". I didnt think so but there was a discussion at my FLGS who said their Space Marine Speeder could. DOesnt seem right to me but I thought I would ask.

Generally the answer is ‘No,’ unless its otherwise stated that they can.

The rules for Tank Shock and Ramming are under the heading of Tanks in the rules book and both only mention the use of tanks within themselves.

That is to say that Tank Shock and Ramming are additions and exceptions to the normal rules for Tanks.

And two pages further on in the book we have the rules for Skimmers, of which a Landspeeder is one and notice that there is no mention of allowing TankShock or Ramming anywhere there.

    Cheers.

    Yeah, Tanks can, Skimmers can't.

But Skimmer Tanks (Falcon/Wave Serpent/Devilfish/Hammerhead/etc) are both skimmers and tanks, therefore they can do everything that both types can - ramming included.

So be sure to check if your skimmer is just a skimmer or also a tank whenever this comes up!

If anyone argues that eg a non-tank model like their Landspeeder can initiate a ramming move, show them the wording on P.56 BRB, second paragraph under "Type". Lines two and three spell it out *very* clearly that each vehicle type has its own quote "unique" unquote rules.

As Ramming comes under the Tank Type unique rules but *not* under those of a Skimmer, a Landspeeder cannot therefore initiate a ramming move as that move is specific to a Tank. However, it can cause damage back on the tank which rammed it.

As was already stated though, a Skimmer which is also designated as a Tank can of course initiate a Ramming move.

In that case, why would they bother having the +1 to strength for beign designated a tank. It was my impression that anything with an armor value (except walkers) could ram.

Ah, that rule causes all sorts of consternation.

The +1 for being a Tank is used for resolving the equation used for the hit, with the bonus obviously used by the rammer and the possibility of it being used by the rammee in return [the one being rammed.]

    Cheers.

I wondered that too- it's because it's counted by the rammed vehicle also.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
