Hey I noticed this on my old ones, and then got two new measuring sticks with assault on black reach and against they are not really inches. They are close but how many times does it seem like if you had two more millimeters you would make it to the enemy? what if you got those two mm every turn?
Did anyone else know this? And do people still use them, or do you just play with tape measures? My friend cut his into a 6 inch, and a 12 inch (which are actually those distances) and we use those, and then a tape for anything over 18. What do you do?
Aye, that's not new news.
Since plastic shrinks a bit when it cools, the measuring sticks are a bit off as you say. They can be useful for LoS, though...particularly in Necromunda.
I've always used a tape measure. Useful for when you need to measure more than 18" or for any heavy weapon.

I have a very old 24" ruler which folds into 6, 12 or 18" depending on how you do it it is excellent as it gives you quite good cornering measurement aswell. Longer distances I use tape it is just so much simpler.
Personally, I just use a tape measure for everything.
And, if you're using the red whippy-sticks, and they are slightly shorter, I'd just use those exclusively in the game. So long as you use the same scale all the time, it doesn't matter all that much if your inches are a bit short.

I have honestly never noticed the measuring sticks were slightly out and have only really used a tape measure also.
But even then a tape can be inaccurate due to the metal end stop working loose but hey, its pretty close to being dead right anyway.
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
Being a proud owner of a basilisk, I need a tape measure. However, I've yet run into a situation where I need all that range....and if I did, I need to get a bigger tape...my 16 footer isn't long enough.
Never understood why anyone would wanna use those little red sticks anyway.
Now THAT is useful!
The best 40K accessory ever is the GF9 TAC template.
