A friend and I are experimenting with 40k, and we're disagreeing with that the Chaos Space Marine Codex and the 5th Edition rule books are stating. "Your model must be visually holding the weapons he is using (What you see is what you get) p47 on the AoBR book"; but, the CSM Codex states that the Chaos marines come with a Bolter, Chainsword and a Bolt pistol. Obviously, it is impossible to be wielding 3 weapons, how does this rule work? What is the official ruling on this?
WYSIWYG really is only for official games, it doesn't matter if its just for fun
of course you could put a one of those weapons on their belt in a holster/sheath
It is generally accepted that 'standard' equipment everybody has doesn't need to be fully WYSIWYG modelled. The point of WYSIWYG is to be courteous to your opponent. Nobody pulling any "OH, sorry, you didn't know that heavy bolter is actually a lascannon in my army list before you parked your tank there?"
Your opponent knows that every Chaos Marine has a bolter and BP+CCW. They don't know which one in the squad has the plasma gun, unless you model it.
WYSIWYG is all about ‘obviousness.’
It cuts down dramatically the amount of questions being asked before a game.
But some things no matter how well depicted will still need a cursory explanation to be obvious, Demonic Essence comes to mind here as does anything that has no official model for in the game.
It’s a goal to strive for as nobody wants to field 300 questions about non-descript items before the game even starts.
As long as it’s ‘obvious’ to the players what something is then there can be little argument about it latter.
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
thanks for the replies, If i were to play in an official tournament, and my chaos space marine comes with a bolter / ccw and a bolt pistol - my model need to physically have these on the model to skip the BS?
no they can the bolter modeled or the ccw & bolt pistol. for them its the same weapons. it matters when you buy upgrades like a plasma pistol or a power sword. you have to model them with that weapon.so just model them with ccw & bolt pistol and say the bolter is on their sides. that counts ok.say you dont move the models that turn then they put down their pistol get the bolter and shoot it at range 24 inches. or vice versa. hope i helped.
Traitors dine in heLL.
thanks for all of the replies, the GW guy said the same thing
Ooooh! That sounds like personal experience of suffering from the insanity rulings coming through there!
Just kidding with you
