I just grabbed a copy of the new space marine codex. There are a lot of changes to the wargear rules. I'm wondering if these rules changes also apply to the blood angles codex. Since the blood angels codex is so self contained in the first place, I'm assuming no until I hear otherwise. GW says they are going to update the pdf codex online with faqs, but it looks like it hasn't been updated since the ne SM codex was release.
Thanks for any clarification.
if your going to play blood angels i would use the current codex. just check for an update every so often.

Self-contained is exactly that. DA and BA get to look on with a degree of jealousy as codex marines get a load of shiny stuff.

I wasn't talking about the new stuff in the codex. I was talking about the inconsistencies between "classic" items like the combat shield, storm shield, and power of the machine spirit. Some got better, some got worse, and some flat out changed. Seems silly to me, and in general makes things more confusing, that BA's wargear works differently than vanilla marines. Unfortunately also looks like thats the way the rules work right now.
I can't comment or compare to DA because I don't have that codex.
As has already been said, each of the Marine codexes are self-contained. BT get to have the ability of selecting whatever wargear the player wants from the armoury, unlike the DA and Vanilla Marines who are given their choices in each entry. DA units are all apparently Scoring units, regardless whether they are troops choices or not. Vanilla Marines get to have the "GTi models" of the wargear. Daemonhunter Assault Cannons are still Heavy 3, not rending (although I reckon nobody plays them with such a disadvantage!)
Basically you play from your codex.
