I've been playing IG for a good while now, but recently I looked at the wording on the heavy weapon team that most any squad in the army can have.
It says "Two guardsmen may form a single heavy weapon team, a heavy weapon team must be armed with a weapon from the following list"
not that ONLY two guardsmen can form a team, but that the two guardsmen form a single team,
Will that allow for more than one team if there are enough guardsmen in the squad?
Take the command squad for an example, one officer, and four (4) guardsmen.
Can you take two heavy weapons? for the wording is as specified above, that two guardsmen form a single team.
Then take a normal squad from the infantry platoon, same wording, and 9 guardsmen to take from, so to go extreme that would mean 4 heavy weapons in a normal infantry squad.
This would be unbalanced, expensive and odd. But I just had to ask, does anyone have an opinion on this??
PS, I've been playing the rule as
"only two guardsmen may form a single heavy weapon team"
Thus, never more than one heavy weapon per squad, unless its in the support squads or heavy weapon platoons.
Another wording im unsure of is the "special equipment" section of the doctrines
It says that "if this doctrine is taken, then each special piece of equipment must be applied to every available model. So if you choose cameleoline, then every model that can have it must have it." -
Fair enough, it is cameleoline im wondering about, for it says that ANY guard infantry unit
(that is command squads, anti tank squads, fire support squads, special weapon squads, mortar squads, hardened veterans squads, normal infantry platoons, and armoured fist squads.)
Does this mean that I cannot have say five cameleoline equiped squads in an infantry platoon, but have the command squads and or fire support squads "vanilla"? If you have to pay the points for every single infantry unit you field. it will be a very small IG army indeed..
Any opinions on this?
Two Guardsman are two Guardsman. But one guy counts as loader. He still can hold and fire his lasgun, but counts as holing a H.Weapon because he can fire it if the original firer dies. Each weapon costs so much, so it will add up.
Does it say 4 Guardsmen can form 2 heavy weapon teams with missile launchers for X pts? =)
There are an infinite number of things that the Codex fails to say you can't do. The nature of game rules restricts us to only doing things is specifically says you can do. The Codex gives you the option to form two men into one team. It does not list an option to form four men into two teams for twice the price, so you can't do it.
For the special equipment, yes, you do have to pay it for every unit that can have it, except for the RR thing.
So yes, if you choose Cameleline, your army will be smaller. It'll also be able to benefit from a 3+ cover save if you get the whole lot in cover.
