Tux Imperial armour?

I really don't know much about the imperial armour books, but I was looking at one of the updates v1.1 and saw that my Witch hunter Rhino are now 35pts. In the update it does say that the aim of the updates is to have a set of vehicle rules, regardless of what system you are running. does that mean our rhino's are now 35pts and my friends won't try to mark me as a cheater?

IA is really FW's own set of rules for FW's often special or strange forces/units. While things like cheap Rhinos seem perfectly reasonable now that the new Marine 'dex is here, it's a potentially game-changing alteration that really shouldn't be applied to otherwise unchanged codices... FW can do their own thing because, well, they've been going their own way from day one.

So I'm going to go with no, you can't use the FW FAQ unless you're using the full FW armylist and ruleset. For conventional forces, you'd need it in an official GW FAQ.

Of course, if you're just playing with your buddies, go right ahead and work out your own house rules, GW and FW be damned!

but FW is part of GW, so what makes it unofficial?

in friendly games I see no reason at all why anybody would refuse to let you use the FW rules, but LO might be the wrong place to ask, just look around and you usually see allot of negativity to FW rules, but not there models strangely, double standards perhaps.

in a tournie you would have to ask organizers..............but why would any sane person wanna play in a tournament?????????????????

GW has alot of things floating round out there like this, varient SM chapters wanting to have the equipment be the same as in the new SM codex is similar. GW take on it is with permission its fine (in the end its about getting a good gaming experience) but in tournaments it is most likely going to be use only what is in the codex for your army. and at your codex prices.

The models are often with different rules and again are used only with permission I haven't seen forge world units allowed in most tournaments.

Because Forgeworld is a seperate division altogether, they don't write the main rules or design the main model lines. Regardless, I think a reasonable opponent in a friendly game would have no problem using the updated costs (considering most 3E armies need a little love), but you still require their permission beforehand or it is illegal. The only way you could use the updated costs without permission would be if you both agreed to a game using the full IA rules and units. In which case I don't care about your 35pt rhinos cuz I'm dropping Str D 10'' blasts across the board

Unless there are no D str weapons in the new IA book then, your using the book for some of your army why can't your enemy use it for part of their army? this would seem to be setting up a double standard you can use it for a benifit but they can't. Again with permission in a friendly game the lower cost rhino is fine as it just about anything but because of questions like this is why it will not be used in competative play.

I'm not trying to say its completely fair or that in a friendly game I wouldn't allow it. I'm just trying to point out that it really is up to the person your playing. And in competative play it will not be allowed because it raises far to many balance questions.
