Hey there got a random question that needs some answering. When you start a melee combat between two squads, lets say SM vs Orks, can any more units join in the fight or is that assault completely cut off. (The two groups fight till one dies or runs away).
There's no limit. More and more units can keep charging in as long as there's an enemy to get in base contact with.

thank you that helps a lot.
When the battlefield becomes silent, and the crust of the earth cools to when it was first born, My men and I will roam this land.
More units can join the fight. For specifics, go to page 41 of the 5th Edition rule book. If you still have questions, I'll try to help.
This is an important strategy of the game! It allows multiple weaker units to gang up on a more powerful one. It also allows one unit to assault multiple enemy units which can prevent them from getting counter-charged in the next turn. It also prevents other units you might have from getting shot if you can get most of the enemy's units in close combat.
