I just got NIB 2nd Edition Tyranid Tyrant
Can I use it as Tyrant (with new big round base) in tournaments? Is it ok?
My main concern that he is small - just like new plastic warrior.
There shouldn't be any problem, as long as you make it clear it's a Tyrant, and don't try to benefit from cover for being smaller.
How do you avoid benefiting from cover for being smaller? Carry around the newer model and drop it in to check every time someone shoots at you?
Is it a full classic army or just that one model? (Doesn't really matter either way, but I doubt anyone would ever complain if it were part of a full classic army.)
This is an issue that crops up every now and again. Some models have undergone a drastic change between editions. Monsterous creatures are now significantly bigger for all armies (my early edition daemon princes are tiny), also some units like chaos obliterators are totally different.
But the crux of it is, you bought it and it is a GW model, then you can use it. I still use the old school models from time to time and get the "what the hell is that????" comments, but at the end of the day, they are legal.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
