Me and My father where playing a game of 40 k in a city... His grey Knights vrs my lonley Tau....
he has a squad on top of a building... and thier apears to be 1 cm of a kinda wall...
I shot at the Grey Knights and killed three... he aruges that since there is 1 cm of wall that his GK count in cover and still roll for their save (i shot them with plasma rifles ap 2 and he should have no saves) seeing as the rules say that you can roll for your saves when your in cover...
He says that the marines are laying down in the cover (its my opioin that sm or GK don't lay down "too much pride in thier armor" is this true?)
my question is.. does he really get these saves???

The best way to decide this will be have all cover and dificult terrain pieces decided before the game but the way you show it I would have to say that the GK would benefit from a 5+ cover save.
The actual poses on the models do not show their actual stance in battle as models may knee or lay down to shoot or better use cover...

Get your sig from-tHe BaD GuY
there is no rule stating that grey knights have so much faith in their armour that they will not use cover, hence although they may not in the fluff, they still do in the game
hence your dad was right
Never judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes...by that time they'll be a mile away, and have no shoes
Yeah thats a common problem in 40k.. You just gotta realize that the models wouldnt be so stationary if it were a real battle going on.. Assume models are constantly moving and changing posistions. If any model is touching terrain it generally gets a cover save
