Just curious and very confused, i bought some Assualt Terminators recantly and have glued them together - for fluff reasons its as follows
Pair of Lightning Claws x 2
Hammer & Shield x 3
I thought this would mean the ones with teh shiedls would be tougher to kill in combat, however im cofused over the way to calculate the stats for these 3 now.
Can some please explain how i go about 'adding on' additional things to a man?

Their points cost remain the same, as you choose either the Lightning Claws option or Thunder Hammer / Storm Shield option. In shooting or close combat, the Storm Shield gives a 3+ invul save.
So I'm not sure what you're trying to ask at the moment?
Thanks for the reply, i understood that no matter what comnibation (5th edition at least) of weapons for the assualt terminators they would still cost 200 points
however ( apolagise no rule book to hand ) they have a save of 2+
but then the shield gives them an invunruable save of +3 and just not sure on what this means whats the differeance between save of +2 and invul save of +3 ?

Just refer to your codex. The entry for assault terminators sets out their options and the number of points that you must pay for each. In the case of equipment choice for close combat terminators you may choose either set of weapons at no additional cost.
So you unit of five will cost you an even 200 points.
As for the way that their saves work.
Terminators have a 2+ armour save and a 5+ invulnerable because of their armour.
Storm shields give a 3+ invulnerable save.
This means that a terminator with Thunder Hammer and Stormshield has the following protection.
2+ armour save
5+ invulnerable from the armour
3+ invulnerable from the storm shield.
Now, when you are injured by an attack you may choose one save to use to protect you against that attack from those available to you. If someone hits you with a standard weapon then the best choice is your 2+ armour save, although you are free to use the other saves should you want to do so. This would however be foolish.
If you are struck by a weapon which ignores armour saves then you may use either of your invulnerable saves to try to prevent the wound. Now since the storm shield gives a better save most people would use the 3+ invulnerable save. You can of course choose to use the 5+ save but then your terminators are far more likely to die...
I hope that this explanation helps you to understand how saves work.
As for wound allocation. You need to look at the rule book for that as IP law won't let me go into detail about that.
Thanks for your help, i do have the rule books at home but im just currently at work and was woundering what the options would be, choosing to use standard aroumr invul save or the storm shield save.
i normally use fast weaker squads and as such havent looked into additional armour before hand, mainly assualt phases. but agree, a further investigion into the rule books would be a benefit, would also allow me to look and understand an oppenents army better.
thanks for the clarifictaion / advice.

If you have the rulebook that comes with assault on black reach then you might want to turn your attention to pages 20 under invulnerable saves and 25 under complex units, that should answer any questions about your saves.
Ask me about the Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike!!!
