I have asked the basis of this questions before elswehere but now i have a definitive version i would like to get your opinions on things.
Its conserning the Forgeworld Dreadnought, In particular the Chaplain version -
My plan is to not use this as a Chaplain but as a Vernable or Standard ( depending before game play / writing up lists on point sizes etc.)
I have selected to have a Flamer (which the Chaplain cant equip - to my knowleadge ) & a Close Combat Weapon
The Chapter of my Space Marine army is Raven Guard as such i thought that the look of the Chaplin Dread would suit well, and could be explained by me adding on 'extra armour' resulting in the reason for the apperance.
However i have played games before where the WYSISYG is extremely strict,
would you guys allow this Dread to be played as a Standard + extra armour / Vernerable + extra aromour or not?

I voted for both, as it looks ornate enough to be venerable, and you could pass it off easily as a regular dreadnought. (just looks cooler!)
"And they shall know fear." - a particularly evil Daemon Prince
You can use it however you want, it's your model, your hard earned cash that payed for it.
If people are complaining about you using that model as a venerable or standard dreadnought then IMO they aren't worth your time.
The Chaplin dread is gorgeous. I have one along side four other forgeword dreads... all painted in my custom chapter colors. No one around here would complain if you fielded yours in any configuration.
As others have said... it is mainly about clear communication and you are set
Just as long as you have the correct weapons load out, you are fine using the model as a standard or ven dred. As Dreachon said, if your opponent complains, you should find a different opponent that would actually be fun to play against.
WYSIWYG doesn't force you to strictly adhere to what GW says is the right model. A Chaplain Dreadnought does not exist in standard 40k, so its model could be used as whatever you want so long as you declare it beforehand and the look of such a model is obviously different than the look of another similar model.
I have stated this before and am still with the same opinion.
WYSIWYG extends to the army roster, if you ‘see’ on the roster then you ‘get’ it in the game as long as you have done the most you can to represent it on the table.
And WYSIWYG is more about war gear and upgrades anyway [page 47] so equip the model correctly and you’re good to go!
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
There are three major points that for me matter.
1) Are the weapons going to confuse me mid game? Seems your doing just fine
2) Can I get this model (badly) confused with another model mid game? I would most prefer this to be a Venerable. That said, as long as there isn't a less venerable looking dread on the table that is a venerable I wouldn't mind much. After all they aren't gamebreakingly different (ie one doesn't fly or anything).
3) And this is the biggest point of all. Oh cool! a Forgeworld model, sweet! Look how awesome it is! Look at that detail and your paintjob is superb! I really enjoy playing with nice models. I'd remember what that thing was. Just cause its forgeworld and a sweet looking forgeworld piece at that!
Dear Game Developer,Caps-Lock, its like cruise-control for AWESOMENESS!
Rock is cheese, Paper is just fine
WWP and other Dark Eldar how to
Cheers guys, i guess as longs as its clear within my point allocation what it is ( plus only having one dread in my army shouldnt be too hard to rember its not a Chaplain) then it should be fine.
Thanks for the re assurance, was worried Id spent a fair bit of cash will have spent a good few hours painting the thing wirght my list including it, get it into battle and have some one start complaining.
