The definition of kill points is very unclear in the rulebook.
If a player takes 3 landspeeders as a single squadron.....
Do they count as 1 kill point, as they are one unit?
Do they count as 3 kill points, as each one is a tank?
They are considered 1 kill point because they are in a squadron, making them one unit, which obviously restricts them to a unit rules such as cohenrency and things.

Acez has it right,
Kill points are given as 1 for character, 1 for unit, 1 for vehicle
As long as those leman russ are kept as 1 squadron instead of 3 vehicles they will be tallied as 1 unit.
Am I the only one who hates these Kill points? Why should a unit of 3 leman russ earn you the same as 6 Fire Warriors?
Eldar: Hakan-eth Craftworld - Lead by Head Farseer Jaraith 2500pts
Tau: Yihe'ya Sept - Lead by Shas'O Yihe'a Montro Myen Kauyon 1500pts
It's unfair. A unit of LR's is worth only 1KP, yet a unit of 3 zoanthropes is worth 3KP's. Ork nob bikerz are only 1KP when they should be worth something like 5KP's for the amount of points they cost. For the amount that a fully tooled nob biker squad costs, you could probably buy 10KP+ worth of IG infantry/units. I definitely agree that Victory Points are a better yardstick than KP's.
I totally agree here, KP’s are just really bizarre.
I can understand that 1 KP = unit but what a unit equals varies so wildly its not an accurate measure of anything whereas victory points are.
You play the game on an equal points footing[eg 1500 vs 1500] but an unequal kill point one almost every time.
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
100% agreement. I remember when we first had discussions about this when 5E was brand new. Kill Points were evenly attacked and defended IIRC. Now it seems plain as day that they are a broken exploitative mechanic for certain armies.
I'm all for a simplified alternative to Victory Points, but it needs to accurately represent the importance of the units lost. Perhaps 1 KP for every 100 points spent? IDK.
What my gaming group prefers to do is to simply count the number of points left on the board at end of game (there's usually not that many), and then whoever has the most wins. We do that for almost every Annihilation mission, and I always end up suggesting it for pick-up games.
