How is this worked out? Is it one kill point for the whole platoon? Or since they are broken into heavy etc, they are a kill point each?
Each unit that acts seperately on the table is worth a KP, this includes transports, IC's, and even marine "combat squads"

As an example, let's say you have the following platoon:
Platoon command squad
infantry squad #1
infantry squad #2
heavy weapon squad #1
heavy weapon squad #2
This platoon would be worth a total of 7 KP's - 1 for each independent unit and 1 for each transport.
And that'se to prevent anyone from hiding one unit in a bunker and going to ground to get a 2+ cover save and be completely reckless with the rest of the platoon not worrying aobut the KP
