I thought if it scatters over the max range it counts as it may have bounced or caught the wind or something.
Is that wrong?
antique_nova, You're only partially correct.
Initial placement of a G X" to Y" range weapon, must fall between X and Y. Scattering after that fact, the weapon hits/damage are all counted from the final resting place of the template.
In an example you have a weapon with range G 12"-24". You would first place the template over your desired target, then measure to ensure the template falls within that range. If it does not, the shot has missed. If it passes that check, then roll for scatter as normal, and determine hits/damage from final postion of the template, even if its 11" or 29" away.
