I've been reading a lot of sample IG army lists recently and I see a lot of people discarding the basilisk in part because of its minimum firing range.
If you read the codex you can see there is no note that says the basilisk can ONLY shoot indirectly, unlike the griffon and colossus.
So if i refer to the rules in 5th edition:
Page 58. Second Column.
Ordnance Barrage Weapons
-"If fired Directly at the target, they are treated exactly like normal ordance weapons (ignoring the minimum range in the weapon's profile)."
So am I right to think that the basilisk can fire under 36'' if fired directly?
I'd like to know cause i'm planning on getting those basilisks soon but with no direct fire i might go another route.
Sorry if its an old topic, I can't seem to find a clear answer on this.
Thanks for any input!

...but each can also be utilized as a direct fire gun, ....
Your combination of the rules and assessment are correct.
wow right in my face! Thanks I always tought that part was fluff text. Basilisks are not to bad then for 125 points.
...Until you realize that if they fire directly then they are out of cover and av12 is...squishy.
Yeah, same. When I see a 125 point, open-topped, AV 12 vehicle in the open I get this warm, happy feeling inside.
