I'm currently building a Tau army and plan to use a Shas'el for my commander however, i'd like to use a different more unique looking model to represent it.My question is could i use Commander Shadowsun's model and use it just as a normal Shas'el? i know i COULD use it if i really wanted to but i guess my question is, is it frowned upon or is it fine just so i can have a unique looking commander for my army?hope that made snse if not ill try reqord it *brain dead*cheers!!!
It's absolutely fine to do that, as long as your commander either uses the same weapons as are modeled on Shadowsun (twin fusions would become twin-linked fusions in this case), or you convert the different weapons onto her that you want.
I doubt any players will have a problem. She's a much better looking model than the standard commander. There are also some good looking forgeworld commanders if you haven't seen them yet. Link. The R'myr and XV89 models would work nicely.

Ahh sweet thankyou very much for the quick replies!
Thats great to know!
You both are right those models look great thankyou very much for the help =)
Conversion/substitution is always acceptable. Just make sure that your project does not grant you any undue advantages.
Potential in game concerns:
-Shadowsun is on a smaller base that a Crisis Suit. This can give you an undue advantage when utilizing Jump/Shoot/Jump.
-Shadowsun is quite a bit smaller, so an opponent might think you're getting an unfair Line of Sight advantage (because jetpack models can jump back after shooting).
Put the Shadowsun model on the appropriate base, and add some cool features to the base for her to stand on.
Or tryout FW stuff, as above.
