If an artillery unit (Not a vehicle like the Basalisk) loses it's guns, does it just because a heavy support (or w/e) unit made out of the infantry crewman? Or are they destroyed if every gun is destroyed? How do they test for losing 25% of their unit in one phase?
Specifically, I'm talking about Ork Gunz and their Gretchen Crew. I'm modelling custom models right now, and was trying to figure out if I should glue the Gretchen gunner to the kannon or not. If all the guns manage to get destroyed, I would be 1 model short for the gretchen mob that was now free to do w/e they wanted.
Also, they still count as heavy support even though gretchen are normally Troops... like for capping objectives, right?
The models will form a unit if their gun is destroyed. Consider the SM Thunderfire Cannon, the tech marine has equipment that the codex specifically states he may not use untill his gun is destroyed, and that after his gun is destroyed he becomes an independant character like other techmarines.
No the grots will not score, they were bought as a heavy support choice and will always count as a heavy support choice.
Remember that the gun isnt worth a killpoint, the unit is, so if you lose the gun and have 2-3 grots running around it might be a good idea to hide them.

I thought normally gun crews and their weapons were considered one and the same, ie you kill off the crew first, then the gun is removed along with the last crew-member.
In IG the heavy weapons team works a bit different, as they are not 'Artillery Units'. They act as a single multi-wound model.
Ok, that was what I wasn't sure of. If I got down to 2 grots somehow, I do destroy a gun as well.
I really think Ork Guns should have a higher chance to hit the grots since its only 2/6 I think... IE 1/3 of the time, but oh well.
