I have what may be somewhat of a silly question but here goes:
If a squads majority has an invulnerable save does a model with no invulnerable save gain the save or not?
From memory armour saves in a complex unit goes by the majority, e.g. if I had a squad with a 4+ save with a character that has a better save his gets downgraded to a 4+...right?
What if the squad has an invulnerable save and the character does not?
I can think of a couple of different scenarios but what do you think?
1) Will he automatically take a wound from a weapon that ignores his armour save or can the squad 'give' him their invulnerable save?
e.g. i have a squad of 5 guys with an invulnerable save and 1 guy without and take 3 wounds, do I automatically lose the guy without the save and then take my save for the other two wounds
2) Does the squad take the invulnrable saves and then any that are failed have to be allocated to the model without the save first?
e.g. i have a squad of 5 guys with an invulnerable save and 1 guy without and take 3 wounds, i test to see how many wounds i take using the invulnerable save and 1 doesnt save, does this mean that i lost the guy with no invulnerable save or can it be allocated to one of the others
3) Can I allocate the wounds to the other models before I take the saves and then the character only takes a wound if there are too many wounds?
e.g. i have a squad of 5 guys with an invulnerable save and 1 guy without and take 3 wounds, i allocate all the wounds to the guys with an invulnerable save thereby keepng the guy without the save safe
I suspect that it is number 3 but can anyone clarify this?
Number 3 is correct. You allocate wounds to different types of unit still keeping them spread..
For instance, if you had 5 Terminators, 3 with storm shields and and 2 without, and you took three wounds, you could allocate all three on the storm shield termi's, so you would roll 3 dice, and any 1 or 2 results in a dead termi. However, if you had 2 with storm shields, and 3 without, and took three wounds, you would roll 2 dice, and on a 1 or 2, storm sheild termi is removed, and one more, on 1-4 a termi is removed.
Zidi is right, but just to clarify, it is the same with armor saves. If there are different saves in a unit (just as with different wargear within a unit), then wounds are allocated to individual models before any saves are taken. Using a terminator example, if you had a power-armored Space Marine Captain in a unit of 5 Terminators and took 6 wounds, you would allocate one wound to each Terminator and one to the Captain. Then (assuming the Terminators all had the same equipment), you would roll the Terminators together against their 2+ save and then the Captain against his 3+ save.
Hope that makes sense.
ya, number 3.
It's toughness values that get "assimilated" by the squad majority, and that happens on the roll to wound.
Then, after that roll, you allocate the inflicted wounds to individual models.
These models then take saves based on their armour/invulnerable/cover save values
Hey guys thanks for clearing that up for me
Rep to all of ya
