Hi all, just a quick question I am starting to play Dark Eldar and was curious on a couple of things. Can they move 12" and fire all weapons since they are faster, or is it 6" and fire all? Also if you have Bikes and I take a heat lance I can move 12" and fire it? Just unclear really one how much of an advantage being a skimmer gives me. Thanks.
Armies: 40k: Imperial Guard, Orks Fantasy: Skaven
In the back pages of the BRB there is a guide to how far a vehicle can move and what it can shoot if it goes that fast. The only advantage a fast skimmer has over a fast tank is that it's flat out speed is +6" and it can move over models and terain. Other than that, it follows all other rules for a fast vehicle
A fast vehicle can:
-move up to 6" and fire all weapons (normal vehicles can only fire one, plus defensive weapons)
-move over 6" up to 12" and fire one weapon, plus defensive weapons (normal vehicles can't shoot)
-move flat out over 12" up to 18" (24" for skimmers) and not shoot anything (normal vehicles can't go that fast)
Bikes are not vehicles but a different class of model called, well, "bikes". (Jetbikes are a subset of bikes.) Dark Eldar jetbikes can move up to 12" and shoot any assault, rapid fire, or heavy weapon, then assault in the assault phase or move up to an additional 6". Or they can turbo-boost up to 36" and not do any shooting or move anywhere during the assault phase (but you get to use bladevanes on stuff you flew over). Moving 12" and firing a heat lance is A-OK (and you can then move another 6" in the assault phase if you like.)
Remember that over 12 inches you get a 4+ cover save and any models assaulting the model need 6s to hit.
What the guys above have already said is correct. I've a funny feeling though that there is an upgrade for the DE skimmers which allows them to fire more weapons than normal, but as I don't have the necessary Codex I'm only going on a vague memory of what one of my friends who plays DE said to me. Sorry I can't be more specific, but it might be worth your while to check out the upgrades for the Raiders/Ravagers to see if he's right.
"Tau Commandment #226: Participants who use Velocity Trackers in the Tau Clay Pigeon Tournament will be disqualified"
You are correct, there's a rule that applies to ravagers and the DE fliers that lets them fire all weapons when moving 12" or less. Additionally venoms only have defensive weapons so can always fire both, and raiders only have 1 gun so they can also always fire all their weapons when moving 12" or less. The only thing in the codex that can't is Vect's Dais of Destruction which is a modified Raider with 3 Dark lances.
The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. Bring them understanding of the power of ourselves through our strength and their fear. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all fragments will be smashed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be consumed
To be more specific the special rule is called "Aerial Assault" and it can be found on pages 45, 46 and 47 in the Dark Eldar Codex but Bugs_and_Orks covered it well.
In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
