I witnessed a game yesterday of two pals at my local store and was dumbfounded that this was possible.
In the IG book p. 96, non bold text for Infantry Platoon rules say that its counts as a single Troop choice for FO, OK. but its the next part of that sentence that bothers me and came up yesterday. It sais for the purpose of deploying they are treated as a single choice. In a Dawn of War setting, does that mean that two FULL platoons could be placed? Granted they didn't have any transports? Or does DoW still take precedence and say only 2 squads?
I'm AFB at the moment, but I'm pretty confident DoW says two units from you troop selections, not two entire FOC slots worth of Troops. The Infantry Platoon rule says all of the various units taken as part of the Platoon count as being from the same FOC slot, but DoW still limits you to two units.
Well to be frank, that's what I thought too, but this stupid wording is getting the better of me.
"Each Infantry Platoon counts as a single Troops choice on the force organization chart when deploying, and is rolled for collectively when rolling for reserves"
It's the part of that first sentence where it says its deployed together... Any other thoughts?
It says when deploying they count as a single Troops choice, but once again, the DoW rules don't tell us to deploy too entire Troops choices. You deploy two units of troops. It's the same way a troops unit with it's dedicated transport count as your limit in DoW--they may only be one Troops slot, but they're still two separate units.
Yes, 10 vets and a chimera count as one troop choice but are 2 units (2 kill points etc) therefore you can only deploy one chimera and squad (and an HQ) in dawn of War. Many other armies have a similar situation such as marines in a rhino or orks in a truk.
If you blobbed your infantry platoons you could deploy 2x50 man squads + a CCS in dawn of war. 105-110 models isn't bad (depending on advisors)
