My friend wanted me to post this here just for his own clarification as he doesn't have access to the internet atm.
In the Apocalypse rule book it says that flyers shooting at vehicles always hit the side armour, mainly beacause they are so high up.
But my friend noticed there was nothing in particular mentioned about flyers shooting at titans.
Because titans are so large, and a tall more to the point, do the flyers still hit the side armour or is it possible for a flyer to hit the titans rear armour?
I don't know if there is an FAQ or a particular paragraph in the rulebook that we've both missed, so anyone that might be able to shed some light on it please so. Thanks in advance.
I would imagine a titan is treated like any other vehicle, don't forget just how high most flyers can go....
I would play it that since there is no specific ruling to allow the Titan to be hit on the rear armour, the standard ruling for side armour would be used.
"Tau Commandment #226: Participants who use Velocity Trackers in the Tau Clay Pigeon Tournament will be disqualified"
Playing it so that you hit rear armour would be houseruling it. But if you play it that way, then I'm going to have to say you hit my front arc if you are shooting at my titan from the front.
I know, I know....sometimes these rules are illogical. Then again, so is firing at a titan with a meltagun point-blank from 1" away...and then missing.
Record: Win - Loss - Draw: Hive Fleet Pandora (New) 32-6-6 Space Wolf 7th Co. 52-11-6

Imperial Guards 12-5-2 Daemons 8-3-2
Rules is rules, so as it stands flyers would have to shoot top (side) AV.
However, a reasonable houserule might be;
Low Level Strafing
A Flyer can choose to fly low to the ground in order to target vulnerable areas. If a Flyer chooses to perform a low-level strafing run, it may target the actual facing of the target vehicle which is presented (Front/Side/Rear) rather than defaulting to top(Side) armour as per the Flyer rules. If a Flyer chooses to do this, then enemy units may shoot at them using their BS on the next enemy player turn (although the Flyer recieves a 4+ cover save, like a skimmer moving flat out). Enemy units may not assault a Flyer performing Low Level Strafing, unless they have special rules or wargear which would normally allow them to assault a Flyer. The Flyer movement rules continue to apply as normal during Low Level Strafing.
I have too many armies to list in my signature!
