Been a while since I played (since 4th ed.). In the 5th. ed. book, it says in the "Move Assaulting Units" section that "All of the models in an assaulting unit make their assault move following the same rules as in the Movement phase" (and no text anywhere in the section expressing a "default" amount moved while assaulting). And then, in the "Assault" subsection under "Bikes" it says nothing about distance moved, only about the rules with respect to terrain. Since they move 12" in the movement phase, this seems to suggest they also assault 12". Am I reading this right?
Nope. Normal movement allows for 6" for assaulting unless an exception is made......bikes have no exception.
Move 12". Assault 6".
What you may have read at one point is Calvary (or beasts). They both get a 12 inch charge. It defenately threw me a curveball.
Ah okay I think I found the text that says it: "Except for the rules detailed in this section...these units follow the same rules as infantry."
And no I was not confusing this with Cavalry/Beasts...the book is very explicit that they assault 12". I was just confused by the fact that the assault section for bikes didn't say anything. Leave it up to GW to make you read 3 different places to figure out one rule, I guess.
