basically all i was wondering is can space wolves drop pod a single unit or anything? i know they can't deepstrike a singel unit, but does anyone know the specifics?
Well, cross referencing the Codex Space Marine with Codex Space Wolves my theory would be this:
Drop Pods effectively enter play using the Deep Strike rule.
Space Wolves will not Deep Strike unless the entire army enters play via Drop Pods.
Therefore, all of your forces must enter play this way or none of them.
Drop Pods are much too random for my liking as you can never guarantee when they are going to arrive. This can effectively leave your squad stranded or force you to drop in a safer location, pretty much taking away the whole point of using one.
Terminator Based Custom Chapter
No, you ignore that entry in the space wolf codex.. It is referring to the old drop pod rule which no longer exists.
Space wolves may not teleport, but they use the standard rules for drop pods as found in the space marine codex. All updated rules apply to *all codexs*.
Reason - if Space wolves used the old drop pod rules then they would also use the old "and they shall know no fear" rule, and so would every other special chapter (BA and DA). Again, they do not use the old drop pod rules. You buy them a drop pod just like every other space marine army now
So, and correct me if I'm wrong here, what you're saying is that the principal weakness in the deployment vector for the space wolves is now gone. Not that I'm complaining mind you, but is there any faq to that effect? Or are we just going on what the changes in the Marine Codex have done to the SW codex?
I mean, if it has, I'm making 4-5 drop pods and taking my SWs to the next tourney.
EDITL Sorry, my bad. I just found confirmation in the SW faq. Awesome.

And of course, you need an IC for every 750pts, so your options for an all drop pod army get worse and worser. Wolf Guard get expensive quick.
Putting a Venerable Dreadnought HQ into a drop pod might help with meeting the command requirements though.
I was all set to build a Space Wolf drop pod army under 3rd Ed rules, but now, no way...!
