Please bear with me for a moment...
Let's say unit A defeats units B in close combat. Units B fails its morale check. Both units roll the D6+Initiative and unit A's roll is higher, and it destroys unit B in the sweeping advance. Unit A consolidates 6" into unit C. Does the combat between A and C continue right then and there, or does the turn end(assuming "A" is finished with all other assaults) with unit A base to base with unit C? Or am I missing something entirely? :hmm:
In a nutshell, can one unit enter assault more than once in one turn?

you fight any combats as result of a consolidation in the next turn
ah, many thanks ^_^

One small detail. You do not get a 6 inch consolidation move.
If you completely decimated a unit during CC then you roll a d6 for the consolidation roll. I think it's called annhilation.
If the unit fails morale and you successfully perform a sweeping advance, then you get a 3 inch consolidation roll.
Other then that, you are correct.
tanglethorn is not entirely correct... Or at least his choice of words should've been a bit clearer.
If You Massacre or succesfully decimate a unit with Sweeping Advance, You get the random consolidation move.
If You win and the opponent manages to succesfully escape, You get the normal consolidation move (which BTW is not 6", just like tanglethorn pointed out).

4thEd p43, Sweeping Advances & Consolidation", right column, first paragraph, lines 7 and 8: "... may now..."

To answer the original question "If consolidated, when is the new combat fought?":
4thEd page 44, "Consolidation", left column, paragraph four, line line four: "... when combat is worked..." Read the following paragraphs as well to gain futher information on how consolidating into enemy units works.
