Look for your answer under the 'Living weapon' upgrade for the defiler. I'm not sure which page because I'm nowhere near my codex right now.

One question though, knowing that the defiler has a ws 2 why would you want to walk it into battle which is where your questions seem to be leading?

Aren't you happy firing the battle cannon from a stable platform? Must you charge the enemy with your ordanance carrier?

The heavy flamer is for personal protection, and I highly recommend it. I have had numerous battles with my defiler and the one time it got charged by stik bomma boyz it laughed at them then walked 2 inches out of combat and fried them to a crisp with it's heavy flamer!

dont upgrade the flamer, u'll barely use it to full effect, use the spare points somewhere else... i'm assumeing u dont like hte maces cuz there' ugly... yes they are... just dont make a conversion and put a better looking weapon.. jsut dont use the flamer

Er, you can't just walk out of combat with Walkers. If you get charged you're stuck in combat until your enemies die/run away. So no doing this boys & girls, it's cheating. (Not accusing you of cheating, I imagine it was a mistake )

Nah, not really a mistake. More like 'being misled'. Me and my friend were new to the game and having like our second battle. The GW store employee asked me why I kept attacking those stickbomma boys when all I had to do was walk away and fry them. So I did! hahaha.

So you can't do that huh? that's funny, wait til I tell Ugluk, he's gonna be so mad!! ^_^

Chaos Paul, Walker movement can be found in the 4thEd rules, page 61, right column, paragraph titled "Walkers".
