i am momentarily digging through the codex Tau, and came across something i don't really understand.
The krootox has for a toughness the value 3(5) listed. and the note under it say that for instant dead a thoughness of 3 is used.
what does represent the then? the thoughness of the krootox himself? so can i assume that if the krootox is hit( killed the rider), it still can fight as a sort of kroothound style in close combat?
or what does it mean?
It means that when You check for actually wounding the model, You roll weapon Str Vs the higher T in parenthesis ("enhanced" toughness).
When checking if that shot inflicts Instant Death, You use the lower value (statline toughness).
Same applies to many other models as well, bikes being the most notable example.
Note that if a shot does inflict Instant Death, then You remove the Krootox as well... Either the Kroot and the Krootox both get vapourized by the shot, or the shot vapes the Kroot and the Krootox, left without guidance, quickly runs away from the fierce battle.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
The only models tis does not apply to is battle suits, as it says in the codex
"it is impossible for the pilot to be hit without the suit absorbing some damage so the toughness in brackets is used for to wound rolls and checking instanant kill.
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
