In the event of a mortar (or other guess weapon, which I think applies to Eldar) being placed in a squad, how does the rest of the squad fire? Since the mortar isn't actually targeting anything (other than x" away), could the rest of the squad fire at a target determined in the usual manner? Or could they only fire on a squad that the mortar hit?
As guess weapons no longer guess the distance in 4ed yes you do because guess weaponry just targets and scatters just like firing any ordinary weapon. What the ruleing in 3ed would have been… beats me, kinda pointless now.
P.S. no Eldar do not have guess weaponry in squads… does anyone? It does mater when trying to shoot someone with the spare sherkcan catapult in the heavy weapons squad
Why would you put motars in squads. They are not that effective unless your playing against nid's or greenskins.
Uzi, can you PLEASE add "There is no more guess weapons" in the FAQ? This is getting more common than the "omg do my TL plasma guns still overheat on a 1 even if I get a reroll?"
No offense to the poster, just it seems like every page has a thread about guess weapons and 4th edition
The problem I run into with my squads with a mortar in it, is do I have to take a Ld test to target a squad that isn't the closest enemy unit, even though I'm firing out of LOS.
Barrage weapons in a unit with other weapon types which are not Barrage:
The entire unit shoots at something they can shoot following normal rules.
Thus, two options:
1. Shoot at enemy with Barrage weapon using its special rules. No Ld-check required, since Barrage weapons do not require it and only the Barrage weapon is firing. You can not fire any other, non-Barrage weapons in the unit.
Note that the rules allow You to choose and not shoot with a model, and thus You choose to not shoot with any other models except the Barrage weapon in order to allow the Barrage weapon to benefit from its own rules.
2. All of the weapons in the unit shoot at the same target enemy unit. If it is not the closest, check for Ld. If Ld is failed, every weapon (yes, even the normally immune Barrage weapon) shoots at the closest target.--- I was Anacron who started the sticky FAQ thread... And everyone can contribute. =)Originally Posted by Kirasu
