Hey everyone, this is probably pretty easily solved as I think I have it right already, but I am finding the rulebook REALLY unclear on this (mostly because the open-topped rules are spread between the embarking section and the open-topped sidebar  ).
I would just like it all cleared up nicely so I don't have to worry anymore
A wartrukk with no upgrades (fast, open topped) can move 12" and then the orks can disembark to within 2", shoot, and assault 6" (as opposed to moving 6", shooting, and then assaulting 6"). Am I right?
If so, a battlewagon (tank, open topped) can do exactly the same, as whether or not the orks disembark and shoot depends on the distance moved (12" or less) rather than the speed of the vehicle, and whether or not they can assault depends on whether or not the vehicle is open topped.
Is all this correct? I am sick of having mobile tactics all muddled in my head when I go to battle...

Looks to me like you're correct.
Yup, still works fine, its the open top factor that matters, the only constraint is that the vehicle is only moving 12" or less so when the boys jump out they dont all break their legs.
Like 2nd Edition
Wasn't it in 1st ed that the rules stated if one's models accidentally fell out of the transport, they died?
I think 2nd ed too as i seem to remember a friend of mine who charged death company out of high speed transports because you took a wound or had a chance to and they had 2 wounds basic, much more sensible now, although lacking in some of the more humourous moments.
