I have an army with the dropp troops doctrine and it says that a platoon rolls as one for reserves. but when u deep strike you use the ordance template. Do i deep strike in each squad seperatley?

    how does it work exactly?

They roll for reserves as a whole platoon, but its safe to assume the deep striking is done squad by squad as the squads operate independantly once in game.

Its the same as deploying your Platoon as troops. When it comes to deploying your Platoon they are deployed at the same time (whole platoon = one deployment choice), but they may be placed any where.

When Deep Striking you roll for the the whole Platoon (to determine which turn they arrive), but one they have arrived, they act independantly (as normal).

So basically IG has MULTIPLE opportunities to lose men to the warp, (ouch) but have a likely chance to get most of them deep onto the board (Sweet), but a REAL good chance of not getting a platoon positioned correctly to support itself.(ouch)

Weighing the (VERY simple) statistics above i don't think I'd ever Deep Strike a platoon of IG.

The odds are no different than those for any other deepstriking units.

Thanks for all you comments. I was just thinking of having a squad with a melta gun deepstrike next to sum tanks and unleashing firey beams of hell onto it.

ah, but other units D.S. and scatter the whole unit all at once, IG would have a very big chance of D.S. a significant portion of their unit into disarray....

I didn't realize the object was to keep them all together. It's true that the IG platoon is less likely to deepstrike all in one spot than a single unit is, but I didn't really see that as a problem. The more space between them the harder it is for the enemy to assault all of em together, which seems like a good thing when you're DSing IG infantry, that are presumably there to shoot.
