Right then -
Today I was playing a game of 40k, with my tyranids versus another guy's nids. My broodlord charged his hive tyrant and one tyrant guard. The first thing i want to know is - because both my broodlord and his hive tyrant have independent killzones, could i pile attacks onto the tyrant and ignore the guard.
If the answer to this is yes, here comes my second question - what happens if the two get seperated - if the hive tyrant is attacked by say, 30 gaunts and the guard also attacked, and they pile in and end up on different sides of the combat out of coherency - would the wounds on the hive tyrant still be taken on the guard - it just seems a bit strange to me that as a hormagaunt moved to strike the hive tyrant, the tyrant guard would manage to wade through ten metres of roiling close combat to take the blow in time.
Help, anyone? This is really confusing me, as the nid rules say one thing, but the logical thing and the rules for CC say another!
The only difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people is that tattooed people are awesome and can kick your ass.
"War does not determine who is right - only who is left."
Monsterous creatures are not ICs..
IE a hive tyrant is not an IC, where as a Brood lord is
THe difference is that a Hive Tyrant may not be singled out during CC if he is part of a unit (Which he cannot unless it is Tyrant Guard). The rules for tyranids and their MCs changed a lot with the new codex
You attack the unit, any hits are distributed among the guard + tyrant in accordance to majority toughness and armor save
No, the hive tyrant has no seperate kill zone, any more than two eldar in the same unit do. Nor can they ever be out of coherency, that would never happen.

Im in ur Halo, killin ur covernantz
To clarify and prevent any unintentional misunderstandings: majority Weapon Skill and Toughness, and the Mixed Armour rules.Originally Posted by Kirasu
